The crowded California gubernatorial primary is approaching in just 2 weeks on Tuesday\, June 2nd!
\nNurses are supporti ng Tom Steyer for Governor\, fueled by his unequivocal support for a natio nal and state single-payer health care system\, as well as his co mmitment to ending corporate control over politics and working people’s li ves\, taxing billionaires and corporations\, and protecting our democracy.
\n\nRight now\, tens of millions of ballot s are still with California voters. As of last week\, only 2 percent of mail-in ballots have been submitted.1 The low return rate su ggests that most voters are still undecided and waiting to see how polls s hake out.
\nMeanwhile\, corporate interests are spending big against Steyer to the tune of $24.5 million.2 Why ? Because corporations are terrified of being held accountable by his administration.
\nAnd recently\, it was reported that Steyer’s oppo nent\, Xavier Becerra\, stated behind closed doors to the California Medic al Association (CMA) that now was not the time for a single-payer system l ike CalCare.3 This is disappointing\, but can’t be ignored alon gside the fact that CMA endorsed Becerra and is now spending at least $500 \,000 to help get him elected.4\,5
\nHealth care is witho ut a doubt the biggest issue in this race\, and who we elect to serve as o ur next governor will play a major role in how fast Californians can achie ve the universal\, single-payer system we deserve.
\n\n\nThe more calls we make\, the more voters we can turn out t o elect a single-payer health care supporter as governor of California.
