Sensible Cinema: Friday, September 18

Sensible Cinema
Sponsored by UU-UNO & Green Committee

Broken On All Sides
Friday, September 18, 6:30pm, Unitarian Universalist Center
1187 Franklin Street @ Geary Boulevard

The film, Broken On All Sides, is a compelling documentary by Matthew Pillischer addressing the racial inequities within our criminal justice system.   It dissects the War on Drugs and ‘tough on crime’ movement illustrating how the emerging Occupy Movement offers hope for change and explores possible reforms and solutions to ending  mass incarceration.
Broken On All Sides centers around Michelle (“The New Jim Crow”) Alexander’s theory that through the rise of the drug war and ‘tough on crime’ policies, and because of the system that allows discretion for targeting people of color at a disproportionately high rate, Mass Incarceration is the new caste system in America.

As usual, popcorn and other refreshments will also be available.
Free Admission donations appreciated).  For more information please contact:

Wake Up Conway! Our City is Not For Sale

  Thursday, September 17th
7AM8AM
Ron Conway’s house
765 Market St., SF
By Powell St BART

Mayor Ed Lee and other top city officials are reeling from  recent accusations of corruption. But    working- class people and communities of color hard hit by skyrocketing inequality and pushed out of unaffordable neighborhoods have long known that it’s pay-to-play politics in San Francisco for the venture capitalists and real estate elite. Major players like Ron Conway are reshaping the city to benefit the 1%. It’s time to break up their game.

Like  Zula Jones said — “You got to serve the people here. We got it. We know this. We are the best at people-powered politics, we do it better than Ron Conway and his cronies and we will hit the streets.”
