Brandon Lee has been safely airlifted from the Philippines to his hometown, San Francisco. To celebrate his return everyone is invited to City Hall.
Brandon and his mom Louise Lee, who has been by his bedside in the Philippines for 10 weeks, left Manila on Thursday night and travelled on a small air ambulance plane for 24 hours, making stops in Japan, Russia, and Alaska before they landed safely at SFO.
Brandon left San Francisco to be an earth protector with the indigenous Ifugao peasants in the Cordillera Region in the Philippines. On August 6, Brandon was shot at his home in Lagawe, Ifugao, he sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was gunned down for his environmental work to protect the land from large scale projects that would destroy the eco-system and livelihoods of the indigenous people.
Brandon is a staunch advocate for human rights and has been a volunteer paralegal with Cordillera Human Rights Alliance. Prior to moving to the Philippines, he was active with both the Filipino and Chinese community in the San Francisco Bay Area.

bus drivers transport the most precious cargo possible: our children.
For 45 years, we have safely transported the youth of San Francisco,
with no child fatalities.
With the continued rising costs in
the Bay Area, we see a region-wide shortage of drivers. There are
many creative solutions to address this shortage but compromising the
safety of our students is not the answer.
That is exactly
what SFUSD is proposing. Their most recent proposal splits the work
into three types of driving that can be bid on separately. One type
of work is a new category of 10 non-buses with uncertified drivers,
while leaving itself an open door to expand this work without limit.
School bus drivers are held to the highest standards of any
commercial license in the state of California.
They
undergo hours of training, background checks, medical exams and drug
screening, and California Highway Patrol certification before we
start. We must retest every five years to continue driving. CHP and
the DMV can pull our certificates for any reason seen to compromise
the safety of children.
School buses are designed to protect
the children inside. Steel reinforced sides, rollover protections,
anchored seats and the red-light system all prioritize safety.
Using uncertified drivers in vans compromises the safety of
the students we transport. The SFUSD proposal also opens the door to
undermine the union and pit us against each other as drivers.

8 am on October 30, a federal judge will hold a hearing on a final
rule change by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
This rule would permit employees to refuse to assist in care based on
their individual religious beliefs, without consideration for the
impact on patient care.
SEIU 1021 members and our allies will
hold a press conference and ceremony outside the Courthouse at 7:45
am to oppose this rule and affirm our commitment to accessible
care.
Our work is critical to the health, safety, and
well-being of our communities. We must speak out against this rule
that will destroy healthcare workers “duty to care” and allow
religious objections to care for LGBTQI people, women, and others.

Enrique was arrested this summer for a DUI, and was due to serve for four days at a Sacramento County Jail (Rio Consumnes Correctional Center in Elk Grove). However, instead of being released to his family and friends after he served his short sentence, he was transferred by local officials directly from the jail to ICE custody.
A DUI should not mean permanent family separation. Jails should not be transferring our community members to ICE for deportation.

years ago a revolution began in Rojava that was to radically change
the lives of millions of people. The Kurds liberated themselves from
the dictatorship of the Assad regime and began to organize themselves
in self-governed councils, communes and cooperatives. In particular,
the autonomous organization of women became the driving force behind
the social revolution. Over the course of the struggle against the
Islamic state, a unique multi-ethnic and multi-religious project
developed, which today guarantees the peaceful coexistence of
millions of Kurds, Arabs and Christians. The Democratic Federation of
Northeast Syria is a unique example of the vision of a peaceful and
democratic Middle East and has therefore always been a thorn in the
side of both regional powers and imperialist states.
Today the
Turkish Army started its operation and has started bombardment many
places are under heavy artillery attacks. Their goal is to wipe out
the Democratic Federation. Several civilians have been killed already
and thousand of people have started escaping the danger of ethnic
cleansing and Turkish fascism. At the same time ISIS is using the
Turkish attacks for insurgency.
