Updated August 25th by Lisa Ganser on Mesha Irizarry
(Many of you know Mesha through her work locally and nationally advocating and empowering families / communities whose loved ones have been killed by the police. And in the Abolition Movement. Her son Idriss Stelley was killed by SFPD in 2012)
Update from our handsome queer matriarch, La Mesha Irizarry:
Hello my beloved familia!
The cancer is winning, which I kind of knew all along. I’m not in a panic or in a rage. I am calm.
My spirit is tired
My body is tired
I knew
So I am calm
The pain is tolerable. I have not used opiates for 4 days. The pain is nothing compared to the night my Son died.
So far all the pieces are in place in terms of my end of life, except that i am terribly worried for housing and accessibility for Remi and our dog Qween. They are inseparable. They are one unit. Remi’s health is deteriorating and he might not be able to work in the future.
Let’s remember that Remi has kept me safe and well tended to, as my old buddy, for the past twenty years. Without him i would not have been able to be out in the community and events, with the amount of emotions and hardship that we encounter as activists in the grassroots movement.
Those of you who know Remi know his steady course and purpose, his integrity and love, not through words but through actions.
I hold you all in my heart and I’m very grateful for all the support that you have demonstrated.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you to much buddy Lisa Ganser for helping me write and post this update.
From Lisa:
We have been collectively, as mesha and Remi’s community, at POOR Magazine and Idriss Stelley Foundation (ISF), holding down an accessibility fundraising effort that is focused on mobility scooters. I love that vision mesha had of Remi and she scootering into the sunset after these chemo rounds. That isn’t looking realistic now. That money is needed for other things.
The money that is in process of radical redistribution will go to mesha, Remi and Kween’s accessibility and mesha’s end of life needs. If there’s any dollars left over that are not needed they will go to the next Elder care or Poverty Scholar need, the way POOR Magazine always does.
Please keep sending dollars to POOR Magazine (who are in fact Poor!) and let’s see if we can get this $5000 goal met on Facebook (please click here): https://www.facebook.com/donate/2057217517759147/
Mesha loves getting messages from you all and is not as able to write or take calls. You can keep calling! Leave messages. Send little sweet videos. Especially cute medicine- kids, dogs, plant friends.
It might be a matter of weeks now instead of months, I’m just being real with you.
If you are planning to visit please make sure you are not sick. I know covid is on our minds and even the common cold would be devastating. Please if you visit make sure you are grounded and you get your own access needs met. Keep taking care of you!
Never be afraid to ask for what you need.
I love you mesha! As you wish.
We will make sure your wishes are carried out.

What is Line 3?
Line 3 is a proposed pipeline expansion that will bring millions of barrells of tar sand from Alberta, Canada to Superior, Wisconsin. Enbridge, a company at fault for the largest inland oil spill in the U.S, wants to build this new pipeline through untouched wetlands and treaty territory of Anishinaabe peoples as well as through the Mississipi River and the shore of Lake Superior. Environmental Racism Here In SF
The Hunters Point Naval Shipyard (HPNS) is a Federal Superfund Site on the National Priorities List. This means that it is one of the most contaminated sites in the United States. The Shipyard was the site of the Naval Radiological Defense Laboratory and is full of radioactive and toxic waste.
The HPNS is located in Bayview Hunters Point (BVHP), a low-income community of color ranked as one of the communities in the state most at risk from pollution. Residents suffer from high rates of asthma and cancer.
Lennar/FivePoint built homes contaminated and they plan to build thousands more homes, despite alleged fraud in the cleanup and inadequate cleanup.
WE DEMAND
1. Declare MORATORIUM on Lennar’s Shipyard development and unsafe soil excavation!
2. Declare PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY!
3. Conduct full retesting, safe cleanup, and removal of all radioactive and toxic waste at the Shipyard Superfund Site and Treasure Island

Critical Resistance is partnering with the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) to uplift the Summer of Resistance and help raise the call to fight against militarization, imperialism, and the PIC.
Over this past year, we have seen tremendous resistance to global forces of oppression. From Palestine to the Philippines to Venezuela, our people have shown resilience in the face of imperialism and colonization. But the fight rages on. Now more than ever, with vaccines so unequally distributed around the globe, economic impacts from the global pandemic affecting Third World nations and the Global South at much higher rates, and IMF and World Bank continuing their predatory capital policies, we must support our people across the world! The time is now!
4pm – Abolitionist art and collage making with Critical Resistance’s Oakland Chapter

Last Friday two lawsuits were filed in Alameda County Superior Court against UC Berkeley and the UC Regents. Two community groups and AFSCME Local 3299 are challenging the impact of growth plans of the university. Previously another filing was done on the Berkeley City Council’s violations of the Brown Act, in formulating and adopting the City’s recent secret “settlement agreement” with the University of California.
T panel will discuss both legal and community organizing actions to stop implementation of UCB’s Long Range Development Plan (LRDP), a plan that seeks to destroy People’s Park and other irreplaceable neighborhood and community assets in Berkeley.
Panelists include historians, preservationists and activists:
Charles Wollenberg,
Lesley Emmington,
Carol Denney,
Joe Liesner
Harvey Smith.
The exhibit includes photographs, art work, posters and memorabilia from over 50 years of spirited community involvement in preserving the irreplaceable open space of the park.
People’s Park is at the center of sixteen other officially recognized city landmarks, which collectively are a de facto historic district. They represent the heritage of the 1960s and the larger theme of a century of town/gown relationships. Berkeley became a major target of the New Right conservative backlash with Ronald Reagan promising to “clean up the mess in Berkeley.”
UC’s plans also threaten three historic buildings, including a rent-controlled apartment building, in another project funded by an anti-rent control developer.
The university has exceeded its agreed enrollment limits, creating enormous housing displacement throughout the city. The university has responded to years of state budget austerity by monetizing its public assets in a corporate-like growth that has also become a drain on city resources.
UCB proposes to cover People’s Park with a 17-story concrete monolith, probably to be erected by a private housing firm that will profit from student occupants

On Indigenous Peoples Day 2020, a monument to Junipero Serra, a notoriously violent mission system leader known for imprisoning and enslaving Indigenous people, was removed from a downtown street in front of Mission San Rafael.
A group of Indigenous women and Two Spirited people are facing felony charges in relation to the toppling of a statue of Junipero Serra, infamous enslaver of Indigenous people, in front of Mission San Rafael.
While monuments to racism and violence are being removed across the state, the city of San Rafael is refusing to recognize the harms perpetrated against Indigenous people by Serra and instead has decided to file felony charges against five of the fifty demonstrators. All five facing charges are Indigenous women and Two Spirited people.
While the demonstration was focused on recognizing Indigenous land and history, extremists are now pushing for additional hate crime charges against the protestors and holding public exorcisms in the street.

12. Tuesday, 12Noon – 1:30pm, Shut Down All 800 US Bases & Withdraw ALL US Troops Abroad
San Francisco Federal Building
90 7th Street
SF
The collapse of the US supported government and military in Afhganistan is not an accident or mistake. The US spent over $2.3 trillion or $300 million a month for this bi-partisan operation. It helped train and arm Osama Bin Laden and tens of thousands to fight the Russians and this is now the blowback caused by the US in the Middle East wars in Iraq, Syria and Libya.
This war in Afhaniistan killed and wounded hundreds of thousands of people of Afghanistan and thousands of Americans and contractors. The military industrial complex and war profiteers have made out like bandits with the US people paying the cost.
It is time to close all 800 bases around the world including in Cuba, Korea, Japan, Okinawa, Germany, Turkey, Guam and the Ukraine. It is also time to end the sanctions on Venezuela, Iran, Cuba and North Korea.
The more than $750 billion a year spent on the war machine should be spent instead to deal with the pandemic, our homeless,
our crumbling infrastructure and full healthcare for all the people of the United States.
Join together NOW to end the military industrial complex which benefits from wars around the world only benefiting
the billionaires.

Plandemic Indoctornation won the Gold Award from The European Independent Film Award for Best Documentary. The first part of Plandemic, a 26 minute documentary featuring veteran virologist Judy Mikovits, has been seen by over one billion people worldwide.
The premiere of Plandemic: Indoctornation, featuring white collar crime investigator, Dr. David Martin, set a world record with 2 million viewers attending the global livestream. The series was smeared by critics as “dangerous conspiracy theory.” US media took unprecedented measures to make the masses look away. When Dr. Mikovits made the bold claim that COVID-19 was manipulated in a lab, she was smeared as “crazy”. When Dr. Martin exposed the patents and paper trail proving that that Dr. Fauci was covertly funding dangerous gain of function research at the Wuhan Lab, critics laughed. One year later, they were no longer laughing. Through various independent investigations and accredited studies, every major claim made within the Plandemic series has been validated as accurate. The tide is turning. Truth is emerging. Plandemic is now being acknowledged for being among the first to warn the world of the agenda to reduce the liberties of citizens through medical tyranny. Directed by Mikki Willits, produced in 2020 by Elevate Films.
