Friday, February 25

1. Friday, 11:00am (PT); 2:00pm (ET), the Belmarsh Tribunal

Online register: Belmarsh Tribunal NYC (progressive.international)

20 years ago, the United States opened a detention camp at the Guantanamo Bay Navel Base on the east coast of Cuba.

Over the course of two deades, the US tortured hundreds of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay without charge or trial

Two decades later, Guantanamo Bay is still in operation. The architects of the War on Terror walk free, while the whistleblowers have been sent to prison.

Too often when people expose war crimes, they are the ones put on trial. The Belmarsh Tribunal changes this. Inspired by the famous Russell-Sartre people’s tribunal, which examined US war crimes in Vietnam, it is named for the London prison where Julian Assange is held as he faces extradition to the US. As the US government seeks to persecute a publisher for exposing war crimes, we are turning the tables and putting the War on Terror on trial.

Press Conference/Rally On Systemic Racism, Bullying & Illegal Physical & Verbal Abuse Against SF MTA Workers

SF MTA 250a transit worker April Chandler Shannon and other workers have faced a systemic verbal and even physical assaults on the job.
They have also faced retaliation for speaking out against health and safety violations.

Other workers including car cleaners have also faced illegal discrimination and health and safety violations. Numerous complaints have been made to SF City agencies but the City regulatory and oversight agencies have failed to do their job and defend the health and safety of the workers.

Cal-OSHA and other state agencies have also failed to address these issues.

SF MTA employees will speak out about the specific issues and call on the management to be held accountable to these labor and human rights violations.

4. Saturday, 9:00am (PT); 12Noon(ET), 15th Education Webinar | Israel’s Crime Against Humanity: Apartheid in Palestine

Online – On or Off Facebook (U don’t need to have FB to participate)

15th Education Webinar | Israel’s Crime Against Humanity: Apartheid in Palestine | Facebook

Apartheid is a crime against humanity and is prohibited under customary international law. This means that States are bound by its prohibition and must therefore adhere to its obligations.

Various human rights organizations have detailed Israel’s apartheid regime in Palestine, Amnesty International being the latest.

In short, as Amnesty International said in its report, Israel “seeks to establish and maintain Jewish hegemony wherever Israel exercises effective control,” which includes all of Palestine from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea.

It is no longer anathema to refer to Israel’s structure and policies as apartheid in nature. Our job is to push the envelope and expose Israel’s crime against humanity of apartheid and change the legislative and executive agenda toward holding Israel accountable for its crimes against the Palestinian people. It’s time that the United States and the world recognize, as Amnesty International noted, the “full extent of the crimes that Israel perpetrates against eh Palestinian people.”

Speakers:

– Maen Hammad: Regional Campaigner with Amnesty International’s International Secretariat in the organization’s Middle East and North Africa Regional Office

– Katherine Gallagher: Senior Staff Attorney at the Center for Constitutional Rights

– Dr. Virginia Tilley: Writer/Professor of Political Science, human rights, Middle East, Israel-Palestine, indigenous peoples, race/ethnicity.

– Wesam Ahmed: Head of Center for Applied International Law in Al-Haq

5. Saturday, 1:00pm – 2:30pm, March & Rally in Solidarity with the People of Haiti

In person – Meet at:

SF Federal Building
90 7th St. (corner)
SF

Join Haiti Action Committee for a February 26th march and protest commemorating the 18th year of continued US neo-colonial intervention and occupation of Haiti since the Feb. 29th 2004 coup that overthrew Haiti’s democratic government. Since then, the US government has backed a series of corrupt and brutal regimes which have brought Haiti nothing but misery, violence and chaos.

Across Haiti, popular organizations are calling for the end of the US-backed regime and the installation of a transitional government. Yet the Biden Administration continues to insist on its choice of prime minister, Ariel Henry, who has no mandate and no legitimacy.

As it attempts to thwart moves towards ending dictatorship in Haiti, the Biden Administration has deported more than 20,000 Haitian refugees, in one of the speediest mass deportations in US history. Having fled from conditions produced by US policy in Haiti, they are now being sent back into the US-created nightmare they fled.

Please call, tweet and/or email President Biden to demand:

Stop the expulsions and deportations of Haitian refugees! End all support for the Ariel Henry dictatorship!

Call the White House 11am-3pm ET     202-456-1111; tweet @JoeBiden

9. Sunday, 11:30am – 12:30pm, Speak Out At St. Mary’s for Reproductive Rights

In person

Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption
Intersection of Geary Blvd. & Gough St.
SF

Meet at the corner near the church plaza and be prepared for a spectacle. This testimony occurs at the entrance of St. Mary’s Cathedral the home church of Archbishop Cordileone, a zealous crusader for the Catholic Church and its dark ages morality including extreme patriarchy. Street theater, handmaids, Raging Grannies, more.

To build for mass protests on March 8, International Women’s Day, Sproul Plaza UC Berkeley ,

We are calling on women who suffered before abortion was legalized, along with their daughters, granddaughters, partners and all who care to:
Speak out at Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption—

Were you disgusted by the recent the Walk for Life that invaded our city busing in “the faithful” from far points to denounce reproductive choice? Are you against the enslavement of women? Do you refuse to let the Supreme Court dismantle Roe v. Wade?
Women’s rights are in a state of emergency.
We will not be silenced~

— All the Supreme Court Justices likely to uphold the restrictive Mississippi abortion ban that would gut abortion rights are deeply informed by the anti-abortion teachings of the Catholic Church.
Join us to testify to bring alive the violence done to women when they are denied access to abortion and forced to have children against their will. This is the dismantling of our right to privacy, marriage equality, fertility treatments the Catholic Church objects to as well as appropriate healthcare for people with uteruses.

Youth and age together in action!
Speakout with recollections of the not too distance past before Roe was law of the land. We remember!

Honor the Shanghai Communique: One China – Peace Not War!

Join us for events in San Francisco and Washington D.C. on the 50th anniversary of the Shanghai Communique demanding Peace, not war with China:

On February 28, 1972, the US and China issued the Shanghai Communique at the end of Nixon’s path-breaking visit to the People’s Republic of China. As we mark the 50th anniversary of this historic breakthrough in the relationship between our countries it is a time to recall and reaffirm the guiding principles which were established in the bilateral statement agreed to by both sides.

The binding obligation of both the US and China is to “…conduct their relations on the principles of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, non-aggression against other states, non-interference in the internal affairs of other states, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.”

Additionally, the US government declared that it “…acknowledges that all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China. The United States Government does not challenge that position. It reaffirms its interest in a peaceful settlement of the Taiwan question by the Chinese themselves.”

In recent years, the US government has moved rapidly to adopt an increasingly antagonistic posture towards China. As Americans who urge peace and cooperation than to promote war with China, we urge US politicians to respect and affirm the joint Shanghai Communique, withdraw US troops from Taiwan, cease provocations in the Taiwan Strait, and allow the question of Taiwan to be resolved by the Chinese people on both sides of the Strait themselves, without outside interference and manipulation.
