In the aftermath of the Taliban takeover, the U.S. has frozen nearly $10 billion in assets belonging to the Afghan central bank, the IMF has frozen the distribution of $450 million, and the World Bank has held back hundreds of millions in the Afghan Reconstruction Trust Fund. Afghan teachers have gone without pay since June, and hospitals are closing.

Simultaneously, U.S. sanctions have frozen billions in Venezuelan assets, and the country is struggling to obtain food, medicine, and space parts vital for electricity and water. The U.S. government recently kidnapped Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab after he attempted to circumvent deadly sanctions and appeal to Iran for help. We must call for the U.S. to unfreeze the assets!
