WE STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE SF GENDER STRIKE AND OUR LEADS WILL BE JOINING THE NOON RALLY AND MARCH AT JUSTIN HERMAN PLAZA TO ICE HQ
Please join the San Francisco’s Women’s March as we celebrate International Women’s Day in solidarity with the International Women’s Strike US/ Paro Internacional de Mujeres EUA, and the Women’s March on Washington. This will be a Day Without Women, as those of us that have the opportunity will choose not to work, in order to join together for equity, justice, and the human rights of women, through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity. We have adopted the Women’s March National Platform as the framework for this strike and rally.
Where: On the front steps facing Polk street at San Francisco City Hall [1 Dr Carlton B Goodlett Pl, San Francisco, CA 94102.]
When: Wednesday, March 8 from 11am to 12PM.
We will mark International Women’s Day by recognizing the essential economic value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system–even though women receive lower wages, experience great inequities, and are more vulnerable to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity.
In a brief program of speakers and artists, women on the forefront of struggles for economic justice will present their plans and their thoughts on how we can fight for a more just society and sustainable environment, and preserve the momentum of movement to support the struggles of all women, most importantly, those groups who have been marginalized and silenced: domestic, service, and other low-wage workers, Native women, disabled women, immigrant and Muslim women, and lesbian & trans women.
We invite all women and their allies to join us in observing the strike in any of the following ways:
1. Exclusively shop at women- and minority-owned businesses. Avoid all other shopping.
2. Take a day off from work or caregiving if able.
3. Wear red in solidarity.
4. Observe a 15 minute moment of silence at 12 noon with others across California. Gather during this time at a local rally (see above), at work with coworkers, at home with family, with friends, or take a quiet moment to yourself.
Share if you agree: WOMEN HAVE POWER.
Join us 5 days from today in making 3/8 a #DayWithoutAWoman. You can participate in A Day Without a Woman in 1 of 3 ways:
1. Wear RED in solidarity
2. Women strike from paid and unpaid work
3. Everyone buys local or don’t buy at all
