San Jose, CA | Feb 13, 7:00 – 8:30pm PT | Help the Environment: Public Banks for the Public Good
West Valley Library, 1243 San Tomas Aquino Rd, San Jose, California 95129. 350 Alabama St, San Francisco, CA 94110. Hosted by local Sierra Club chapters. Social & Snacks 7:00-7:30 followed by presentation. Jake Tonkel from the South Bay Progressive Alliance discusses an overlooked but potentially important element in protecting our environment – establishing banks that have an allegiance to the public. A public bank could aid in divestment from fossil fuel and pipeline investments, in funding public infrastructure at low interest rates, in providing affordable housing, and in responding to other needs of the people. Facebook event here.
