16 Shots, the documentary on the Chicago Police Officer’s killing of Laquan MacDonald by director Rickey Rowley who hopes this film “will be the defining document of the moment”.
The title refers to the number of gunshots suffered by 17 year old Laquan MacDonald at the hands of Police Officer Jason Van Dyke. The film delivers its gripping account in a clear suspenseful style and includes news footage from the time and offers a candid look into the thoughts of activists, protesters, former police officers, and even eye witnesses of the murder.
16 Shots recounts yet another story of a fatal shooting of a Black person but rather than being resigned that this is the new normal, viewers will likely feel a fresh sense of outrage.
