For Afro-American History Month Sensible Cinema will screen the made- for-TV version of The Piano Lesson by award winning playwright, August Wilson . This is the fourth play of August Wilson’s Century Cycle of Play which is a series of ten plays that chronicle the Afro-American Experience in the Twentieth century. Each is set in a different decade depicting the comic and tragic aspects of the Afro-American in America.
Without giving away the story The Piano Lesson is about a brother-sister conflict over a prized family legacy, an antique piano. The brother wants to sell to better his future and the sister who wants to hold on and pass the piano to future generations. In the play’s dialogue questions are raised and answered about race, heritage and culture which makes this play a true Piano Lesson .
Free Admission (donations appreciated).
As usual, popcorn and other refreshments will also be available.
