The Power to Heal
Medicare And The Civil Rights Revolution
Power To Heal: Medicare And The Civil Rights Revolution by directors
Barbara Berney and Charles Loewenthal chronicles one of the least known chapters of the civil rights movement in the struggle for access to equal and adequate health care for all Americans in particular Afro-Americans.
In the film the story of how this was achieved. through a health plan created by the Federal Government called Medicare and how Medicare (along with Medicare dollars) virtually overnight eliminated racial segregation in hospitals across the country.
Power To Heal is a powerful documentary and brings to light how the two struggles of racial justice and health care intersect and how the two struggles continue today.
