On August 25 the Supreme Court of Brazil is scheduled to rule on the controversial case referred to as Marco Temporal, or the Time Limit Trick. If it passes it will remove the territorial lines of all the Indigenous People of Brazil who weren’t residing on their current land prior to 1988 when the Brazilian Constitution was written. This will legalize land grabs and violence against Indigenous people by invaders. The Indigenous people of Brazil have been mobilizing to send a resounding message that their existence predates 1988 and the Brazilian Constitution does not hold power over the guardians of the Amazon who will continue resisting in defense of their sovereignty. The call-out from Brazil has been for international allies to hold actions in solidarity with them to echo and amplify their voices. We invite those of you in the Bay Area to join us on August 24 in front of the Brazilian Consulate at 12PM to lift our voices in solidarity with APIB and the people of the Amazon.

Hosts: Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network, Survival International, Brasil Solidarity Network, Amazon Watch
