TELL Mayor Ed Lee: SANCTUARY HOUSING FUND NOW!
Wednesday August 23
4:00 PM
SF City Hall Steps, Polk Street side
Mayor Ed Lee presides over San Francisco, one of the richest cities in the world. That wealth could start TODAY to protect renters and homeowners against the forces of speculation, greed and displacement.
Community members have been calling on the city to create a $35 million Sanctuary Housing Fund to keep seniors, people with disabilities, and African-American and immigrant families in the city. The fund would include assistance for hard-hit homeowners, buying back foreclosed homes off the speculative market, rental subsidies, and legal defense against evictions. But the mayor has remained mute, while refusing to meet with community members or allowing them any input.
Mayor Lee prides himself on keeping San Francisco a sanctuary city. But there’s no such thing as a sanctuary where vulnerable residents can’t afford to stay. It’s time to tell the mayor to stop making decisions behind closed doors, and to support a Sanctuary Housing Fund immediately.
