(Image: Free Press)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<div>\n<p>Fight for the Future\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/fightfortheftr\/status\/1065290111649234945\">announced<\/a>\u00a0Wednesday that on Nov. 29, supporters of restoring nationwide net neutrality rules\u2014which the Republican-controlled Federal Communications Commission (FCC)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2017\/12\/14\/net-neutrality-killed-fcc-hands-keys-internet-handful-multi-billion-dollar\">rolled back<\/a>\u00a0last year\u2014are planning &#8220;an epic, final protest to pressure lawmakers before a crucial deadline to save the internet.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Supporters of the Obama-era net neutrality protections, which blocked internet service providers (ISPs) from prioritizing or throttling access to certain online content, are urging Americans to contacts their members of Congress to fight for a vote before the winter holidays on a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2018\/05\/16\/defenders-open-internet-deliver-historic-win-senate-votes-restore-net-neutrality\">Senate-approved<\/a>\u00a0Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution that would reverse the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2017\/12\/14\/net-neutrality-killed-fcc-hands-keys-internet-handful-multi-billion-dollar\">repeal.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The measure still lacks the support it needs in the House to advance to President Donald Trump&#8217;s desk before this congressional session\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.house.gov\/legislative-activity\">ends<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll need a simple majority of sign on to a &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eff.org\/deeplinks\/2018\/05\/path-victory-net-neutrality-house-representatives-and-how-you-can-help\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discharge petition&#8217;\u00a0<\/a>in order to force a vote past leadership to the floor. That means we&#8217;ll need to convince all the Democrats and about 25 Republicans to support the CRA,&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.battleforthenet.com\/\">explains<\/a>\u00a0Battle for the Net, a coalition backing the resolution. &#8220;The clock is ticking\u2014if the CRA resolution doesn&#8217;t get a vote this year, it dies when the new Congress comes into session in January 2019.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Although the majority of Democrats support restoring the rules and will take control of the House in January, Republicans\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2018\/11\/06\/us\/elections\/results-senate-elections.html\">gained\u00a0<\/a>two Senate seats in the midterm elections earlier this month and the race in Mississippi has advanced to a runoff.<\/p>\n<p>Advocacy groups have launched a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.battleforthenet.com\/scoreboard\/all\/\">scoreboard<\/a>\u00a0to track where lawmakers stand on the CRA resolution to help constituents determine whether they need to put pressure on their representatives. According to the real-time tracker, only one House Republican\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.battleforthenet.com\/scoreboard\/C001077\/\">Rep. Mike Coffman of Colorado<\/a>\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2018\/07\/17\/dam-breaking-declare-net-neutrality-defenders-after-first-house-republican-backs-cra\">has announced<\/a>\u00a0his support for the resolution.<\/p>\n<p>However, some Democrats also would need to be convinced by constituents to vote in favor of the resoultion for it to pass.
