{"id":13166,"date":"2019-10-31T13:34:37","date_gmt":"2019-10-31T20:34:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/occupysf.net\/?p=13166"},"modified":"2019-10-31T13:34:39","modified_gmt":"2019-10-31T20:34:39","slug":"expert-software-could-have-personhood-by-2069","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/occupysf.net\/index.php\/2019\/10\/31\/expert-software-could-have-personhood-by-2069\/","title":{"rendered":"EXPERT: SOFTWARE COULD HAVE \u201cPERSONHOOD\u201d BY 2069"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>OCTOBER 30TH By KRISTIN HOUSER (futurism.com)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Internet Milestone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In honor of the 50-year-anniversary of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fastcompany.com\/90423457\/50-years-ago-today-the-internet-was-born-in-room-3420\">first computer-to-computer message<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 the precursor,&nbsp;arguably, to today\u2019s internet \u2014 Pew Research Center and Elon University&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2019\/10\/28\/experts-optimistic-about-the-next-50-years-of-digital-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">asked hundreds of tech experts<\/a>&nbsp;to imagine how the internet might evolve over the next 50 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And one of those experts envisions a future in which software has gained \u201cpersonhood.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Digital People<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Jerry Michalski is a former tech analyst who went on to found the Relationship Economy Expedition, a private think tank focused on the future economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>He told the surveyors he could imagine software having \u201crights, personality, and limited responsibility\u201d by the year 2069 \u2014 and we can already see examples of this future taking shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2017, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia granted Sophie, an artificially intelligent robot,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/futurism.com\/for-the-first-time-ever-a-robot-was-granted-citizenship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">citizenship<\/a>.
