Rally at 4:30 pm to Pack the Immigrants’ Rights Commission: Tell SF to Stop doing Business with ICE!

San Francisco is supposed to be a sanctuary city for immigrants, but it also gives sanctuary to corporations that have contracts with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Corporations like Salesforce, Amazon, and Google profit from deportation and detention; yet City Hall continues to give them contracts while mouthing support for immigrants. Fortunately, the Immigrants’ Rights Commission is taking the first step to ending these contracts and has asked the City Controller to issue a report highlighting which companies that have City contracts continue to profit off detention and deportation.

Come join us as we highlight this Corporate Hall of Shame and demand that the City stop doing business with deportation and detention profiteers!

After nearly three years of fighting for a fair contract for UC Hastings workers and members of 3299 are embarking on an open-ended strike starting this Monday, March 9th. Similarly to the patient care, service, and K7 units, they\u2019re fighting for a living wage, job security, and respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur members are devoted to our families and to the students we serve each day,\u201d said Jeff Herrera, Library Operations Manager at UC Hastings. \u201cBut UC Hastings Administrators have refused to present workers with a fair wage offer\u2014even though administrators forecast a strong financial position in the coming years and annual revenues consistently exceed expenses by millions of dollars. As a public institution, UC Hastings has a responsibility to provide its career workers with livable wages. Their substandard proposals have failed to meet this basic standard of respect and fairness, and that\u2019s why our colleagues are prepared to strike.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our UC Hastings unit plays a vital role in supporting students and faculty.  They provide transcripts, help with IT issues, schedule classes, catalog library materials, handle administrative needs, and coordinate clinics and programs at the college.
