It\u2019s gone.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2020\/04\/29\/forest-knolls-corner-grove-cut-down\/forest-knolls-san-francisco-grove-gone-2\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forestknolls.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/04\/forest-knolls-san-francisco-grove-gone-2.jpeg?w=630&amp;h=473\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6893\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>THE FOREST BEFORE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2009, the forest area on the corner of Christopher and Clarendon was<a href=\"https:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2010\/06\/09\/laguna-honda-lake-puc-promises-broken\/\">&nbsp;a lush dense grove before the pumphouse was built<\/a>&nbsp;in 2009 (as shown in the poster visualizing the pump station):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2010\/06\/09\/laguna-honda-lake-puc-promises-broken\/copy-of-pump-station-pic\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forestknolls.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/copy-of-pump-station-pic.jpg?w=630\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1088\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Pump Station on poster<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2013, here\u2019s what it looked like. At the time, there was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2012\/10\/30\/is-someone-poisoning-our-trees\/\">concern that someone was poisoning some of these trees.<\/a>&nbsp;After that, the poisoned trees and a couple of others were removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2013\/01\/30\/january-2013-crime-such-as-it-is-and-poisoned-tree-update\/poisoned-trees\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forestknolls.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/01\/poisoned-trees.png?w=630\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5010\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In 2019, the entire grove was clear-cut<\/strong>. There\u2019s no grove between Clarendon and the pumphouse, just a couple of trees left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2020\/04\/29\/forest-knolls-corner-grove-cut-down\/forest-knolls-san-francisco-grove-gone\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forestknolls.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/04\/forest-knolls-san-francisco-grove-gone.jpeg?w=630&amp;h=473\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6891\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>All that is left of these beautiful 125-year-old trees are stumps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2016\/03\/18\/clarendon-trail-head-planned-beside-forest-knolls\/\">the planned trailhead from Clarendon<\/a>&nbsp;is being built.<strong>&nbsp;It\u2019s going to look *very* different from the charming visualization presented by UCSF.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2020\/04\/29\/forest-knolls-corner-grove-cut-down\/planned-clarendon-trail-head-ucsf-2\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forestknolls.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/04\/planned-clarendon-trail-head-ucsf.jpg?w=630&amp;h=471\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6902\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>CLARENDON LOSES ITS CENTURY-OLD TREES<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also gone \u2013 the tall trees that lined Clarendon Avenue in front of the Aldea San Miguel UCSF student housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2020\/04\/29\/forest-knolls-corner-grove-cut-down\/clarendon-ave-tree-stump\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forestknolls.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/04\/clarendon-ave-tree-stump.jpeg?w=630&amp;h=473\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6898\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I remember a time when you couldn\u2019t even see the fence from the street. When UCSF thinned the vegetation there many years ago, they promised plantings that would conceal the chain link fence. Well, they planted some vines, but the concealment didn\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2020\/04\/29\/forest-knolls-corner-grove-cut-down\/clarendon-ave-tree-stump-2\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forestknolls.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/04\/clarendon-ave-tree-stump-2.jpeg?w=630&amp;h=473\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6899\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The chain-link fence is more prominent than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2020\/04\/29\/forest-knolls-corner-grove-cut-down\/clarendon-ave-tree-stump3\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forestknolls.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/04\/clarendon-ave-tree-stump3.jpeg?w=630&amp;h=473\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6900\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>And across the road, a swath of trees adjacent to the homes on Clarendon have been felled too, probably by SF Rec and Parks (or possibly Sutro Tower, not sure).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/forestknolls.info\/2020\/04\/29\/forest-knolls-corner-grove-cut-down\/lots-of-trees-destroyed\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forestknolls.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/04\/lots-of-trees-destroyed.jpeg?w=630&amp;h=473\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6895\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The destruction of Sutro Forest \u2013 and indeed, many of the ancient trees of San Francisco \u2013 continues.
