Goodlett Pl.
SF

On Tuesday, 11/17 the SF Board of Supervisors will vote to approve or reject a dangerous and sneaky contract written by the Police Officers Association that would cement status quo policing for another two years.

This police fraternity contract makes NO changes to policing policy, gives cops more raises, and requires cops to get the same raises teachers, nurses & city workers get. We can do better. Black, brown, trans, disabled, and unhoused lives depend on it.

It would enable the POA to aggressively bully city workers and legitimate unions with their racist agenda even more than they already do. A vote to approve this contract is unacceptable.

Despite widespread demands for a transformation to our approach to public safety, this POA contract perpetuates the racist, status quo. It was negotiated behind closed doors. Now the Department of Human Resources and the Board of Supervisors are trying to fast-track this contract in response to public scrutiny.

We need to remind the Board that their job is to protect Black and brown communities, not police fraternities that uphold violent policing. We need to hold the supervisors accountable!

On Sunday 11/15 at 1 PM we will march to show the Board of Supervisors that we are watching, and that no amount of explanation is going to convince us that they need to guarantee raises to police officers. Our main success in the current congressional session has been supporting Rep. Betty McCollum (D-MN) to introduce H.R. 2407, the “Promoting Human Rights for Palestinian Children Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act.” The bill prohibits U.S. taxpayer funding for the military detention of children in any country, including Israel. Now, we’re preparing our legislative plan for the 117th Congress.

8. This modern reality of non-stop work has resulted in an unexpected phenomenon: the flourishing of 24-hour daycare centers. THROUGH THE NIGHT is a verité documentary that explores the personal cost of our modern economy through the stories of two working mothers and a child care provider – whose lives intersect at a 24-hour daycare center.

The film follows a mother who works the overnight shift at a hospital; another holding down three jobs to support her family; and a woman who for two decades has cared for children of parents with nowhere else to turn. Over the span of two years, across working holidays, seven day work weeks, and around-the-clock shifts, the film reveals the personal cost of rising wealth inequality in the U.S and the close bonds forged between parents, children, and caregivers.

See site for more info

Info: https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2020/11/01/18837998.php

10.
