Socialist candidate Andres Arauz leads a progressive alliance and has an excellent chance to be elected President against right-wing banker Guillermo Lasso. There are efforts by the establishment to eliminate Arauz from the runoff or even cancel the election. Progressive International has warned of threats to democracy in Ecuador. Amidst the continuing pandemic, violence against Asian and Pacific Islanders has increased nearly by 150% this year – and we’re not even to the halfway point.

These attacks have targeted largely the community’s most vulnerable members: the elderly and the poor.

To this end, a coalition of API nonprofits have banded together to increase awareness of the issue. the coalition will be gathering for a rally to speak out against the violence plaguing the country.

Community leaders, activists, and artists will be joining efforts to speak out against the violence against the API community at the rally.

By unifying their voices, the coalition hopes to generate awareness by amplifying Asian and Pacific Islanders, while simultaneously uplifting the spirits of those who have been affected by these attacks.

Info: Rally Against AAPI Hate | Facebook

Sunday, April 4

11. It calls for independent redistricting commissions across the country, similar to California’s, to curtail partisan gerrymandering by state legislatures. It puts limits on the purging of voter rolls, a practice that has been abused in order to suppress the votes of mostly black and minority voters.

And in response to former President Trump’s complete refusal to release his tax returns, the bill compels financial transparency in all future presidential candidates by requiring them to release theirs.

The bill, if passed into law, would counter the nearly 300 state bills that Republicans are pushing in such states as Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, Arizona, and Texas to constrain people’s ability to vote.

H.R.1, the House equivalent of S.1, already passed the US House of Representatives on March 3, 2021.

Host: Indivisible San Francisco

Info: (1) “For the People Act” Rally at Sen.
