Dr. William J. Is he that delusional, or does he think we&#8217;re that stupid?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are coming, and I&#8217;ll tell you what\u2014my fellow Americans are coming with me,&#8221; said Garrison of next Monday&#8217;s march. &#8220;We are in this together, and we&#8217;re not taking &#8216;no&#8217; for an answer&#8230;. We can do better. He is the sole Senate Democrat to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2021\/06\/07\/manchin-must-wake-or-face-progressives-demand-floor-debate-pro-democracy-bill\">refuse to co-sponsor<\/a>&nbsp;the For the People Act, a landmark bill to expand and protect voting rights&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/arizona-west-virginia-gop-voters-back-democrats-election-bill-conservative-opposition-mounts-1591695\">supported<\/a>&nbsp;by 79% of likely West Virginia voters. While the Black leaders\u2014who included NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson, National Urban League President Marc Morial, and the Rev. Al Sharpton\u2014stressed the importance of passing legislation to strengthen voting rights, Manchin left the meeting unmoved in his opposition to the For the People Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t think anybody changed positions on that,&#8221; he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/557320-manchin-unmoved-after-meeting-with-civil-rights-groups\">told<\/a>&nbsp;<em>The Hill<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Johnson&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JacquiHeinrich\/status\/1402288824051539970\">hailed<\/a>&nbsp;the meeting as &#8220;robust and insightful&#8221; and &#8220;focused on finding common ground,&#8221; Rep. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce\u2014the nation&#8217;s largest lobbying group\u2014has&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/money.usnews.com\/investing\/news\/articles\/2021-04-15\/us-chamber-backs-manchin-sinema-with-campaign-contributions\">rewarded<\/a>&nbsp;him and Sen.
