The state of Palestine is inevitable. It is real,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPlease remember that once this session adjourns, in Palestine, there are innocents paying the price with their lives \u2026 for the delay in justice, freedom and peace,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"hamas\">Hamas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Palestinian armed group accused the US of standing \u201cin the face of international will\u201d by exercising its veto power and denying Palestinians full membership in the world body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group said in a statement that it condemned \u201cin the strongest terms the American position biased towards the occupation\u201d, as it called on the international community \u201cto exert pressure to go beyond the American will and support the struggle of our Palestinian people and their legitimate right to self-determination\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe assure the world that our Palestinian people will continue their struggle and resistance until they defeat the occupation, take away their rights, and establish their independent, fully sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"iran\">Iran<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tehran has said that Washington\u2019s use of its veto to block full UN membership for Palestine was \u201cirresponsible\u201d given the lack of opposition from any other Security Council member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWashington\u2019s action exposed the fraudulent nature of US foreign policy and its isolated position,\u201d foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"qatar\">Qatar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed \u201cdeep regret\u201d at the \u201cfailure\u201d of the UNSC to adopt the resolution, and said it \u201cconsidered it a sad day for justice and a setback for efforts to bring peace to the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This reveals the council\u2019s \u201cinability to carry out its responsibilities and role within the framework of maintaining international peace and security, especially in light of the brutal war on the Gaza Strip\u201d, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Statement | Qatar Expresses Deep Regret at Security Council\u2019s Failure to Adopt Draft Resolution Accepting Palestine\u2019s Full Membership to UN<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MOFAQatar?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MOFAQatar<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0bD8UImawg\">pic.twitter.com\/0bD8UImawg<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Ministry of Foreign Affairs &#8211; Qatar (@MofaQatar_EN) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MofaQatar_EN\/status\/1781307517399670960?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 19, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"egypt\">Egypt<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed \u201cdeep regret\u201d over the inability of the UNSC to pass the resolution and said approving Palestine\u2019s bid to become a full UN member was a vital step and \u201can inherent right of the Palestinian people\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said preventing Palestine from gaining full UN membership is a move that is \u201cnot consistent with the legal and historical responsibility\u201d of the international community, which needs to aid all parties in reaching a \u201cfinal and just solution to the Palestinian issue\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"turkey\">Turkey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said: \u201cWhile everyone is on the side of Palestine, unfortunately America puts forward their stance again by standing by the side of Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t expect anything different anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"israel\">Israel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Israel\u2019s Foreign Minister Israel Katz commended the US for vetoing the resolution, which he labelled a \u201cshameful proposal\u201d, in a post on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is outrageous that even half a year after the October 7 massacre, the UN Security Council failed to condemn Hamas[\u2018s] horrific crimes,\u201d he wrote, referring to the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel that triggered the current conflict. At least 33,970 people have been killed and 76,770 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"united-states\">United States<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>US deputy ambassador to the UN, Robert Wood, said his country \u201chas worked vigorously and with determination to support Palestinian statehood in the context of a comprehensive peace agreement that would permanently resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince the attacks of October 7, President Biden has been clear that sustainable peace in the region can only be achieved through a two-state solution with Israel\u2019s security guarantee,\u201d he said after he raised his hand to vote against and veto the resolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is no other path that guarantees Israel\u2019s security and future as a democratic Jewish state,\u201d Wood continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said that \u201cthere are unresolved questions as to whether the applicant meets the criteria to be considered a state\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have long called on the Palestinian Authority to undertake necessary reforms to help establish the attributes of readiness for statehood and note that Hamas, a terrorist organisation, is currently exerting power and influence in Gaza, an integral part of the state envisioned in this resolution,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"russia\">Russia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Russia\u2019s ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, said that&nbsp;by exercising its veto, the US has demonstrated \u201cwhat they really think of the Palestinians\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Washington thinks \u201cthey do not deserve to have their own state\u201d, and it only realises \u201cthe interest of Israel\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nebenzia said the US is turning a blind eye to the \u201ccrimes of Israel\u201d against civilians in Gaza, as well as the continuation of the illegal settlement activity in the occupied West Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe aim is to break the Palestinians\u2019s will, to force them once and for all to submit to the occupying power, to turn them into servants and second-class persons, and perhaps, to once and for all force them out of their native territory,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, he said, \u201cthat policy is only having an opposite impact\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"saudi-arabia\">Saudi Arabia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Saudi Arabia expressed regret over the failure of the UNSC to adopt the resolution, it said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"norway\">Norway<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide expressed his country\u2019s \u201cregret\u201d that the UNSC \u201cdid not agree on admitting Palestine as a full member of the class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"malaysia\">Malaysia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia\u2019s Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan expressed disappointment over the UN vote on Palestine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe exercise of a veto on this crucial matter has called into question the genuine desire on the part of the council members \u2026 to realise the inalienable rights of the Palestinians, including their right to self-determination from the decades of Israel\u2019s illegal and belligerent occupation of the Palestinian Territory of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem since 1967,\u201d he said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMalaysia remains committed to the Palestinian cause and will continue efforts towards the establishment of an independent and sovereign state of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"indonesia\">Indonesia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, Indonesia\u2019s foreign ministry said the country \u201cdeeply regrets another failure by the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution on the full UN membership of the State of Palestine, due to a veto cast by one of its permanent members.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis veto once again betrayed the shared aspiration to build lasting peace in the Middle East,\u201d the ministry added and said that Indonesia would continue to support Palestine\u2019s full UN membership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"pakistan\">Pakistan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Pakistan expressed its disappointment at the UN Security Council\u2019s inability to reach a consensus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPakistan is deeply disappointed by the result of last night\u2019s debate at UNSC and its inability to reach a consensus and recommend Palestine\u2019s membership to UNGA.
