They must answer the question in 100 words or less. We will link to longer answers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With District 11 Supervisor Ahsha Safa\u00ed termed out and running for mayor, seven candidates have&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sf.gov\/reports\/november-2024\/candidates-november-5-2024-consolidated-general-election#board-of-supervisors-district-11\">thrown their hats in the ring<\/a>&nbsp;to represent the Excelsior, Oceanview and the Outer Mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Six of the candidates gathered last Thursday for their first forum at the Italian American Social Club in the Excelsior. The forum was co-hosted by Mike Juan, president of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.advocates11.com\/whoweare\">Advocates 11<\/a>, a community group in the district, and John Rothmann, a former talk radio host on San Francisco station KGO.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.missionculturalcenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.broadstreetads.com\/assets\/eb64a6b2-065a-443e-9c39-2a70330608d4.jpg\" alt=\"Through the 19th of May\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/newspack-missionlocal.s3.amazonaws.com\/mission\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/d11-forum-853x640.jpg?resize=780%2C585&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"Six people stand in a line, facing the camera in a room with beige walls and a framed painting. May 8, 2024.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>About two months ago, we asked the four candidates at the time \u2014 Adlah Chisti, Ernest \u201cE.J.\u201d Jones, Chyanne Chen and Roger Marenco \u2014to say who they supported in the mayoral race, but&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2024\/03\/meet-the-district-11-candidates-who-do-you-support-in-this-mayoral-race-and-why\/\">all declined<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But at this forum, for the first time, five out of six candidates \u2014 including Michael Lai and Jose Morales, the two new contenders \u2014 revealed their pick for mayor. So, this week, we are following up and asking:&nbsp;<strong>Who do you support in the mayoral race, and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the ranked-choice voting race, Chisti said her picks would be incumbent Mayor London Breed in the first place, Board of Supervisor President Aaron Peskin in the second, and District 11 supervisor Ahsha Safa\u00ed in the third place. Chisti placed Daniel Lurie at the bottom of her list.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morales, who said he is only supporting Lurie during the forum, added in this week\u2019s answer that his \u201cattention is now on\u201d both Lurie and former Mayor Mark Farrell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jones said he is supporting incumbent District 11 supervisor Safa\u00ed, adding that he is in a more \u201cunique situation.\u201d&nbsp;Jones worked as a legislative aide to Safa\u00ed for about two years, and Safa\u00ed is also endorsing Jones.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dancemissiontheater.org\/2024\/03\/19\/may-16-18-a-black-to-africa-weekend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.broadstreetads.com\/assets\/c040532f-a73b-4ec0-9b67-67e490d96396.jpg\" alt=\"Back to Africa 17th\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Marenco said he is backing \u201cwhoever is running as a third-party\u201d candidate because he believes that the two-party system is \u201ccrippling.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though Michael Lai was unable to provide an answer to this week\u2019s question, he said during the forum that the only mayoral contender he would not support is Peskin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And Chen, who didn\u2019t reveal a choice back in March, remains the only candidate to refrain from picking anyone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can read their more detailed responses below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: Next week, I will be back at Claddagh Coffee, 951 Geneva Ave, Wednesday, May 22, at 10 a.m. Drop by and share your thoughts! It\u2019s time to establish a new political party of new ideas, so that we can finally fix old problems.
