(And as the Chronicle reported Monday, this is a woefully underfunded effort with guardsmen&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/california\/article\/national-guard-california-photos-20368334.php\">forced to sleep on cement floors in basements<\/a>.)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfist.com\/2025\/06\/09\/protest-outside-ice-field-office-in-sf-leads-to-60-arrests-vandalism-two-officers-injured\/\">Sunday\u2019s SF protests<\/a>&nbsp;netted&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/sanfrancisco\/news\/san-francisco-protest-in-mission-district-against-ice-raids-in-california\/\">as many as 154 arrests<\/a>&nbsp;according to media reports, setting the table for another round of protests Monday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"ICE Protest in SF Mission District\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vngZhRZmlZU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Organizers told SFist that there were \u201cmore than 10,000\u201d protesters Monday night in the Mission District, and we can say with certainty that there was definitely well north of 5,000 people out there. (The above video is just a small sliver of the crowd.) And it was largely very peaceful, albeit with a smattering of graffiti applied to McDonald\u2019s and Wells Fargo storefronts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">this is video from the mass arrest Lurie is referencing, when SFPD detained some 60 protesters on Market Street following an anti-ICE march <br><br>officers can be seen tackling arrestees to the ground &amp; pushing at onlookers<br><br>a few minutes later, they fired pepper spray <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SwE0HOjaA4\">https:\/\/t.co\/SwE0HOjaA4<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/moiyOgm9Do\">pic.twitter.com\/moiyOgm9Do<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Joe Rivano Barros (@jrivanob) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jrivanob\/status\/1932352734021419333?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 10, 2025<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>But, then, as seen above, a splinter group of an estimated 80 of those protesters went window-smashing and looking for trouble near Civic Center. Mission Local reports that police\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2025\/06\/sf-mission-march-mobilized-thousands-against-ice\/\">pepper-sprayed that smaller group of protesters<\/a>\u00a0and arrested \u201cdozens\u201d in the after-protest, while the Chronicle says that SFPD\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/bayarea\/article\/new-protests-sf-trump-sending-more-troops-20367500.php\">used \u201cless-lethal projectiles\u201d<\/a>\u00a0at the Civic Center component.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DKubHDtxs_z\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link\">https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DKubHDtxs_z\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>According to the Examiner, Monday&#8217;s demonstrations started with some&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfexaminer.com\/news\/politics\/sf-ice-protests-accompany-city-leaders-calling-for-calm\/article_899a4ec9-b4b0-43bd-bb1a-66ce4e348ac8.html\">speeches on the steps of City Hall<\/a>&nbsp;at around 4 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If you&#8217;re thinking of targeting a single one of my residents in District 5 \u2026 you&#8217;re going to have to come through me first,\u201d declared Supervisor Bilal Mahmood, who according to the Examiner, then shouted his own home address out loud. \u201cIf you have a bone to pick with our people, I&#8217;m right here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5620.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura, SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The protest then moved to Mission Street and the Mission District, swelling to the crowd of perhaps 10,000 marchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5595.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura\/SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Among their many chants, a few stood out as the best:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cNo fear, no hate, no ICE in our state\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cNo justice, no peace. No ICE or police\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cUp, up with immigration. Down, down with deprtation\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(To the tune of Ludacris\u2019s \u201cMove Bitch\u201d) \u201cMove ICE, get out the way, get out the way, get out the way\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5596.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura, SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWere going to defend immigrant rights. We\u2019re not going to let the Trump administration or ICE or the National Guard initmidate us,\u201d Sabina Wildman, of the protest\u2019s co-organizer Party for Socialism and Libration, told SFist. \u201cUltimately, an attack againt immigrants is an attack on all workers, and we need to stay out in the streets and keep fighting for our rights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5701.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura, SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One demonstrator shouted into a megaphone from the back of a pick-up truck, \u201cWe say we are a sanctuary [city]. But we are not. When immigrants get shot here on the street by cops, immigrants like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfist.com\/2016\/03\/03\/rookie_cop_fired_36_shots_at_alex_nieto\/\">Alex Nieto<\/a>, immigrants like&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfist.com\/2016\/09\/30\/autopsy_for_luis_gongora_reveals_he\/\">Luis Gongora-Pat<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5638.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura, SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The daylight component of the protest (6-9 pm in the Mission) appeared pretty well-liaisoned with the police, with SFPD keeping streets clear of cars for the protesters to march, and seemingly communicating with a team of protest ambassadors on which street the protest would turn onto next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5685.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura, SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And no Waymos were torched as we saw in LA, after Waymo&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfist.com\/2025\/06\/09\/waymo-suspends-service-in-parts-of-sf-and-la-after-its-cars-were-vandalized-in-ice-protests\/\">yanked its cars from service<\/a>&nbsp;in the Mission District Monday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5641.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura, SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Though it had to be an uneasy dinner for people dining in fancy Valencia Street restaurant parklets, and as we noted yesterday,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfist.com\/2025\/06\/09\/delfina-closes-for-night-due-to-mission-protest\/\">Delfina decided to close for the night<\/a>&nbsp;to avoid any such trouble. But there were no reported incidents of diners beng harassed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5781.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura, SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There was, however, the occasional graffiti coating of certain visible targets, and one \u201cmeter maid\u201d patrol officer may have picked the wrong night to park their vehicle on the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5798.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura, SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One instance of Mission District graffiti on a Muni shelter ad would have made the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfist.com\/2010\/06\/07\/the_billboard_liberation_front_stri\/\">Billboard Libertion Front<\/a>&nbsp;proud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5807.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura, SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Three Mission District storefronts took the brunt of the tagging, all other storefronts were spared. (And what has McDonald\u2019s done to be called \u201cZionist?\u201d) The Wells Fargo at Mission and 22nd streets took a large number of \u201cACAB\u201d taggings, and the Vanguard Properties building at Mission and 21st was spray-painted with plenty of complaints that they were a corporate landlord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5811.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura, SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But the McDonald\u2019s certainly took the worst of it, with protest oganizers trying to protect any innocent bystander storefronts. This led to the very amusing scene of a guy with a Viking helmet and a hockey stick adorned with a Mexican flag doing his best to protect the McDonald\u2019s from getting tagged. It may look like he was unsuccessful, but he prevented a heck of a lot more graffiti attempts than he allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mission District protest ended peacefully and totally dispersed by 9:30 pm. SFPD&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SFPD\/status\/1932330541774430692\">said in a late-night statement<\/a>&nbsp;that \u201cThousands of people participated in today\u2019s demonsstrations, which were overwhelmingly peaceful. At the very end of the night, two small grups broke off and committed vandalism and other criminal acts. SFPD developed and coordinated a plan to detain multiple individuals who refused to comply and made arrests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.sfist.com\/2025\/06\/IMG_5767.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Image: Joe Kukura, SFist<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve now had two consecutive days of major SF protests. And it sure seems like these won\u2019t be the last, and we\u2019ll be doing this all again as the week goes on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re including a slew of the better protest signs we saw Monday night below.
