Hours before millions of Americans were set to lose federal food benefits<\/a> amid the ongoing government shutdown, President Donald Trump<\/a> hosted a glittering party at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official theme of the Halloween night bash was \u201cA Little Party Never Killed Nobody,\u201d according to a pool report. The line is a title of a song<\/a> featured on the soundtrack for the 2013 movie version of F. Scott Fitzgerald\u2019s classic novel, \u201cThe Great Gatsby.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reporters at the event described a \u201csmoky party scene\u201d and noted guests were \u201cdressed up in flapper costumes\u201d and \u201cseated at well decked-out tables while a band played.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day after the party, Nov. 1, is the date that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits are set to go on pause. The Trump administration says there\u2019s no way to pay out SNAP benefits while the government is shut down, although it did manage to do that<\/a> during a previous shutdown in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
