US Rep. Ro Khanna<\/a> suggested on Thursday that the top Democrat in the Senate had offered the latest evidence that the party needs \u201ca new generation to lead… with moral clarity and conviction\u201d after Sen. Chuck Schumer<\/a> refused to denounce the Trump administration\u2019s threats of regime change in Venezuela<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhy is this hard?\u201d asked Khanna (D-Calif.) after Schumer (D-NY), the Senate minority leader, told CNN<\/em>\u2018s Jake Tapper Wednesday evening that \u201ceveryone would like\u201d it if Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro \u201cwould flee on his own\u201d instead of stating that the US should not try to force out the South American leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked point-blank if he disagrees with President Donald Trump\u2019s \u201cultimate goal of regime change in Venezuela,\u201d Schumer turned his focus to the lack of clarity in the White House\u2019s strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe bottom line is President Trump throws out so many different things in so many different ways. You don\u2019t even know what the heck he\u2019s talking about. You know, obviously, if Maduro would just flee on his own, everyone would like that. But we don\u2019t know what the heck he\u2019s up to when he talks about that,\u201d said Schumer. \u201cYou cannot say I endorse this, I endorse that when Trump is all over the lot, not very specific and very worrisome at how far he might escalate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
