The Israeli government said Tuesday that Doctors Without Borders, one of the largest medical organizations currently operating in Gaza<\/a>, is among the 25 humanitarian groups that will be suspended at the start of the new year for their alleged failure to comply with Israel\u2019s widely criticized new registration rules<\/a> for international NGOs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to<\/a> the Associated Press<\/em>, Israel\u2019s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs \u201csaid the organizations that will be banned on January 1 did not meet new requirements for sharing staff, funding, and operations information.\u201d The Israeli government specifically accused Doctors Without Borders, known internationally as M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res (MSF), of \u201cfailing to clarify the roles of some staff that Israel accused of cooperation with Hamas<\/a> and other militant groups,\u201d AP<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to providing medical assistance to desperate Palestinians<\/a>, MSF has been an outspoken critic of what has it described<\/a> as Israel\u2019s \u201ccampaign of total destruction\u201d in Gaza<\/a>. The group said in a report released last December that its teams\u2019 experiences on the ground in Gaza were \u201cconsistent with the descriptions provided by an increasing number of legal experts and organizations concluding that genocide<\/a> is taking place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahead of Tuesday\u2019s announcement, Doctors Without Borders warned<\/a> that the looming withdrawal of registration from international NGOs \u201cwould prevent organizations, including MSF, from providing essential services to people in Gaza and the West Bank<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith Gaza\u2019s health system<\/a> already destroyed<\/a>, the loss of independent and experienced humanitarian organizations\u2019 access to respond would be a disaster for Palestinians,\u201d the group said in a statement last week. \u201cThe humanitarian response in Gaza is already highly restricted, and cannot afford further dismantlement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf Israeli authorities revoke MSF\u2019s access to Gaza in 2026, a large portion of people in Gaza will lose access to critical medical care, water<\/a>, and lifesaving support,\u201d the group added. \u201cMSF\u2019s activities serve nearly half a million people in Gaza through our vital support to the destroyed health system. MSF continues to seek constructive engagement with Israeli authorities to continue its activities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pascale Coissard, MSF\u2019s emergency coordinator for Gaza, noted that \u201cin the last year, MSF teams have treated hundreds of thousands of patients and delivered hundreds of millions of liters of water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMSF teams are trying to expand activities and support Gaza\u2019s shattered health system,\u201d said Coissard. \u201cIn 2025 alone, we carried out almost 800,000 outpatient consultations and handled more than 100,000 trauma cases.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Israel\u2019s announcement came shortly after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> met with US President Donald Trump<\/a> in Florida, where both dodged questions about their supposed \u201cpeace plan\u201d for Gaza after more than two years of relentless bombing. The Israeli military has been accused<\/a> of violating an existing ceasefire agreement hundreds of times since it took effect in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al Jazeera<\/em>\u00a0reported<\/a>\u00a0Tuesday that \u201cIsraeli forces have carried out strikes across the Gaza Strip as they continue with their near-daily violations of the ceasefire agreement, with Israel\u2019s genocidal war on the besieged enclave continuing apace and displaced Palestinians enduring the destruction of their few remaining possessions in flooding brought about by heavy winter rains.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
