Photo by Zoe Malen<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s 12 days until the primary on June 2, and there\u2019s a lot of election news: billionaires and business groups dropping six-figure sums on local races, candidates dropping&nbsp;<em>seven<\/em>-figure sums into their own races, and Jeopardy-themed flyers landing in mailboxes, among many, many others items.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Mission Local<\/em>&nbsp;is running a pre-election blog for these small(ish) pieces of news.<strong>PAC in favor of two-state solution for Israel-Palestine backs Scott Wiener<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J Street Action Fund&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jstreet.org\/press-releases\/j-street-action-fund-launches-independent-expenditure-campaign-in-ca-11-primary-to-support-scott-wiener\/\">announced today<\/a>&nbsp;that it will spend $60,000 on an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1I9r_J9XA0s\">ad campaign<\/a>&nbsp;boosting congressional candidate Scott Wiener.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>J Street describes itself as \u201cpro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy\u201d and has positioned itself as a middle ground between the Democratic Party\u2019s AIPAC-backed, hardline pro-Israel faction and its pro-Palestine progressive wing. The group&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/forward.com\/news\/812101\/j-street-aipac-israel-congress-2026\/\">says<\/a>&nbsp;that it will support candidates who are concerned about the current direction of the Israeli government but that they must believe in the existence of a Jewish Israeli state.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wiener has similarly tried to walk the line on Israel-Palestine. While he has been a frequent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sd11.senate.ca.gov\/news\/senator-wieners-statement-escalating-violence-israel-and-palestine\">critic<\/a>&nbsp;of the Netanyahu government and violence in Gaza and the West Bank, at a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/01\/sf-pelosi-wiener-chan-chakrabarti-congress\/\">January debate<\/a>&nbsp;he declined to take a stance on whether Israel\u2019s actions in Gaza constituted a genocide. The non-answer sparked backlash across social media, and four days later Wiener&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Scott_Wiener\/status\/2010464312792404192?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2010464312792404192%7Ctwgr%5E3c848858d4d3486c5dfa09c54be007cb55df9166%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fembeds.sfstandard.com%2Fembed%3Fid%3D3fe9b55b-fd62-457a-9cf2-e90d84b8a4a9\">released a video<\/a>&nbsp;saying that he now does believe it\u2019s a genocide.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cScott Wiener will be a powerful voice in Congress for Americans who believe Israelis and Palestinians alike deserve freedom, safety and equal rights,\u201d said Tali deGroot, J Street\u2019s vice president of political and digital strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February, J Street Action Fund&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jstreet.org\/press-releases\/j-street-announces-3-million-super-pac-fund-to-support-pro-israel-pro-peace-pro-democracy-candidates-in-2026-midterms\/\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;that it had raised $3 million for the 2026 election cycle.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>For more on Scott Wiener\u2019s stance on Israel, Palestine, and other foreign policy issues \u2014 plus those of the other two leading candidates, Connie Chan and Saikat Chakrabarti \u2014 read our Q&amp;A&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/01\/sf-congress-foreign-policy-wiener-chakrabarti-chan-1\/\"><em>here<\/em><\/a><em>.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013&nbsp;<em>Io Yeh Gilman<\/em><strong>Anti-worker PAC spends for Supervisors Alan Wong and Stephen Sherrill<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>California Alliance of Family-Owned Businesses has fought an increase in state minimum wage, objected to an act requiring employers to give workers written notice of their rights, and opposed a bill limiting workplace surveillance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, its spending in favor of District 4 candidate Alan Wong and District 2 candidate Stephen Sherrill, Junyao Yang writes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Read more in our piece \u201c<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/05\/sf-supervisor-elections-wong-sherrill-anti-worker-pac\/\"><em>S.F. supervisors Alan Wong, Stephen Sherrill backed by anti-worker PAC.<\/em><\/a><em>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u2014 Io Yeh Gilman<\/em><strong>Google co-founder dumps $500K to defeat \u201cOverpaid CEO tax\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sergey Brin, the Google co-founder whose turn to the right \u2014 and \u201cMAGA girlfriend\u201d \u2014 the New York Times recently&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/04\/27\/us\/politics\/sergey-brin-gg-soto-trump-california-billionaire-tax.html\">profiled<\/a>, has made his first foray into San Francisco politics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brin dropped&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cal-access.sos.ca.gov\/PDFGen\/pdfgen.prg?filingid=3154976\">half a million dollars<\/a>&nbsp;to tank the union-backed \u201cOverpaid CEO tax.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign against that tax was already flush: It had raised some $4.1 million when Mission Local last published a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/05\/sf-ballot-measures-campaign-finance\/\">fundraising update<\/a>&nbsp;just two weeks ago, and its total is now over $6 million.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brin is not the only one:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Amazon contributed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/netfile.com\/Connect2\/api\/public\/image\/216800664\">$150,000<\/a>&nbsp;on May 20. That\u2019s on top of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/netfile.com\/Connect2\/api\/public\/image\/216757482\">$50,000<\/a>&nbsp;contributed earlier in February.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Neighbors for a Better San Francisco, the group we once referred to as the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2024\/04\/bigmoneysf-how-one-group-quickly-became-the-800-pound-gorilla-of-san-francisco-politics\/\">800-pound gorilla<\/a>&nbsp;of San Francisco politics, put in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/netfile.com\/Connect2\/api\/public\/image\/216762477\">$550,000<\/a>&nbsp;on May 12. In total the group has given&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/campaign.sfethics.org\/elections\/2026-06-02\/committees\/CA1485633\">$860,000<\/a>&nbsp;against Prop. D<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cSF Believes,\u201d a PAC funded by Mayor Daniel Lurie\u2019s wealthy&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/04\/sf-money-donors-june-november-election\/\">allies<\/a>&nbsp;that counts a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/04\/sf-jan-koum-daniel-lurie-campaign-finance\/\">MAGA megadonor<\/a>&nbsp;among its financiers, has put in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/netfile.com\/Connect2\/api\/public\/image\/216789619\">$100,000<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Target chipped in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/netfile.com\/Connect2\/api\/public\/image\/216792135\">$50,000<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And Katherine Auguste-deWilde, the former president of the now defunct First Republic bank, donated&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/netfile.com\/Connect2\/api\/public\/image\/216792135\">$50,000<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Read more about why the&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/02\/sf-lurie-position-business-tax-charter-reform\/\"><em>mayor opposes<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;both Prop. D.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u2013 Kelly Waldron<\/em><strong>Saikat Chakrabarti drops another $1.1 million into his campaign<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congressional candidate and centimillionaire&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/05\/sf-congress-saikat-chakrabarti-aoc\/\">Saikat Chakrabarti<\/a>&nbsp;spent another&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/pdf\/556\/202605169866977556\/202605169866977556.pdf\">$1.1 million<\/a>&nbsp;on his campaign, at least. That brings his total self-financing to at least&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/04\/sf-congress-fundraising-scott-wiener-saikat-chakrabarti-connie-chan\/\">$5.9 million<\/a>.
