Jason Crow. \u201cNow they\u2019re receiving billions of dollars in kickbacks\u2014paid for by your tax dollars.\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/author\/stephen-prager\">Stephen Prager<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jun 05, 2026 (CommonDreams.org)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/elizabeth-warren\">Elizabeth Warren<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenWarren\/status\/2062699611920236933\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suggested<\/a>&nbsp;President&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/donald-trump\">Donald Trump<\/a>&nbsp;is running a \u201cpay-to-play loyalty program for wealthy donors\u201d after a report on Thursday revealed that more than half the companies that contributed to his&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/white-house\">White House<\/a>&nbsp;ballroom project have been awarded government contracts over the last six months, totaling over $50 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examining the 27 publicly known corporate donors to the president\u2019s $400 million gold-plated vanity project, the watchdog group&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/public-citizen\">Public Citizen<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.org\/news\/corporate-donors-to-trumps-white-house-ballroom-have-received-50-billion-in-government-contracts-since-the-east-wing-was-demolished\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">found<\/a>&nbsp;that 14 of them\u2014more than half\u2014had received either new or expanded contracts over the past six months after donating millions to the ballroom and appearing at a lavish White House&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trump-white-house-ballroom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">banquet<\/a>&nbsp;in October as Trump prepared to demolish the building\u2019s East Wing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RECOMMENDED&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trump-ballroom-senate-funding\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/media-library\/workers-are-seen-on-top-of-a-construction-crane-above-the-white-house-on-april-28-2026-in-washington-dc.jpg?id=66718734&amp;width=1200&amp;height=1200&amp;quality=70&amp;coordinates=170%2C0%2C171%2C0\" alt=\"Senate Dems Take Aim at Trump's $1 Billion 'Let-Them-Eat-Cake' Ballroom as US Economic Suffering Grows\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trump-ballroom-senate-funding\">Senate Dems Take Aim at Trump\u2019s $1 Billion \u2018Let-Them-Eat-Cake\u2019 Ballroom as US Economic Suffering Grows<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trump-ballroom\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/media-library\/white-house-east-wing-demolition-continues-for-trump-ballroom-construction.jpg?id=65162794&amp;width=1200&amp;height=1200&amp;quality=70&amp;coordinates=833%2C0%2C833%2C0\" alt=\"White House East Wing Demolition Continues For Trump Ballroom Construction\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trump-ballroom\">50 State Lawmakers Condemn $1 Billion From Taxpayers for Trump Ballroom as Families \u2018Squeezed\u2019 Nationwide<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Over two-thirds, 19 of the 27 companies, received government contracts since fiscal year 2021, totaling over $338 billion. At least 16 out of 27 are also either facing federal enforcement actions and\/or have had them suspended by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/trump-administration\">Trump administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese giant corporations aren\u2019t funding the Trump ballroom fiasco out of the goodness of their hearts. They have massive interests before the federal government, and they hope to curry favor with, and receive favorable treatment from, the Trump administration,\u201d said\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/public-citizen\">Public Citizen<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/democracy\">democracy<\/a>\u00a0advocate Jon Golinger, an author of the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">According to Public Citizen, more than half of the publicly identified corporate donors to Trump\u2019s White House ballroom project have won new or expanded federal contracts worth over $50 billion during the past six months.<br><br>See what this was always about? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Y7hbOlkevI\">pic.twitter.com\/Y7hbOlkevI<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Robert Reich (@RBReich) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RBReich\/status\/2062937394622738893?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 5, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.x.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>By far the biggest monetary beneficiary has been the military contractor Lockheed Martin, which received a $43.8 billion in new or expanded contract funding over the past six months after it&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/trump-white-house-ballroom-donor-names\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pledged<\/a>&nbsp;$10 million to fund the dance hall last fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Booz Allen Hamilton, a consulting company that serves military and intelligence agencies and pledged at least $5 million to the project, received $4 billion in contracts over the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Palantir\u2014the data-mining surveillance giant with deep ties to the Trump administration\u2014reaped over $1 billion in contracts after giving its own $5 million donation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMillions to fund Trump\u2019s bizarre fever dreams are nothing compared to the billions they\u2019re getting back in contracts and favorable government enforcement decisions,\u201d Golinger said. \u201cThe American people are paying the price.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other ballroom benefactors that have brought in more than $100 million worth of contracts over the past six months include&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/microsoft\">Microsoft<\/a>, Amazon, HP, and Caterpillar, while T-Mobile, Google, NextEra Energy, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/comcast\">Comcast<\/a>&nbsp;have all brought in more than $10 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Public Citizen noted that while the White House has publicized some of the ballroom donors and others have been revealed by news organizations, not all of the companies that have contributed to the project are publicly known, since the secret funding agreement&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.org\/news\/trump-administration-finally-discloses-white-house-ballroom-funding-contract-in-response-to-public-citizens-foia-lawsuit\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">obtained<\/a>&nbsp;by the group through a Freedom of Information Act request allows their identities to remain private.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement to The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/washington-post\">Washington Post<\/a>, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2026\/06\/04\/donors-won-50b-contracts-after-giving-trump-ballroom-project-report-says\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">suggested<\/a>&nbsp;that critics should be grateful that Trump was soliciting donations from the wealthy for this very important undertaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe same critics who are alleging fake conflicts of interest would also complain if American taxpayers were footing the bill for these long-overdue renovations,\u201d he said, ignoring the fact that Trump has previously&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trump-ballroom-taxpayer-money\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pressured<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/republicans\">Republicans<\/a>&nbsp;in Congress to appropriate hundreds of millions in taxpayer funding to secure the ballroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ingle added that \u201cthe donors for the White House ballroom project represent a wide array of great American companies and generous individuals, all of whom are contributing to make the People\u2019s House better for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>X post:  <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MikeLevin\/status\/2062714693362295016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2062714693362295016%7Ctwgr%5Eb0c6672a7d5de1dc35a0ad5847e28c90e59c6ae9%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.commondreams.org%2Fnews%2Ftrump-ballroom-contracts\">https:\/\/x.com\/MikeLevin\/status\/2062714693362295016?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E2062714693362295016%7Ctwgr%5Eb0c6672a7d5de1dc35a0ad5847e28c90e59c6ae9%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.commondreams.org%2Fnews%2Ftrump-ballroom-contracts<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But several Democratic members of Congress have pointed to it as evidence of Trump selling out the government \u201cto the highest bidder.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCorporations wrote big checks to build Trump\u2019s golden ballroom,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepJasonCrow\/status\/2062942991229096154\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a>&nbsp;Rep. Jason Crow (D-Col.). \u201cNow they\u2019re receiving billions of dollars in kickbacks\u2014paid for by your tax dollars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWild coincidence or taxpayer-funded&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/corruption\">corruption<\/a>?\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ChrisVanHollen\/status\/2062958198139875366\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>&nbsp;Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.). \u201cYou be the judge.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rep. Mike Levin (D-Calif.)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MikeLevin\/status\/2062714693362295016\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>&nbsp;that \u201cthe part that should make your blood boil\u201d is the fact that many of the companies identified in the report \u201cwere facing federal enforcement actions,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/antitrust\">antitrust<\/a>&nbsp;reviews, labor cases, [or] securities charges.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany of those cases have been quietly dropped or scaled back since Trump took office. You write a check, your legal problems disappear,\u201d Levin said. \u201cThat\u2019s not a coincidence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou cannot afford to donate to Trump\u2019s ballroom, so he does nothing to improve the quality of your life,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenAdamSchiff\/status\/2062961653516210347\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>\u00a0Sen.
