Progressive candidates endorsed by Sen. Bernie Sanders<\/a> swept to victory on Tuesday in Democratic primaries across the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In New Jersey, surgeon Adam Hamawy<\/a> prevailed in the Democratic primary in the state\u2019s 12th Congressional District, while Rep. Analilia Mejia (D-NJ) easily defeated<\/a> primary challengers in the state\u2019s 11th Congressional District by garnering more than 80% of the vote. Sanders (I-Vt.) endorsed both candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanders-backed candidates in California also put in strong showings, with former San Francisco city supervisor Jane Kim advancing to the general election in the race to be the state\u2019s next insurance commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Political scientist Randy Villegas, meanwhile, is currently edging out<\/a> rival Jasmeet Bains in the jungle primary in California\u2019s 22nd Congressional District, currently represented by Rep. David Valadao (R-Calif.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And in Montana, former smokejumper and union leader Sam Forstag won<\/a> the Democratic primary to represent the state\u2019s 1st Congressional District, where he\u2019ll face off against Republican Aaron Flint<\/a> in the fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanders adviser Faiz Shakir on Wednesday took a victory lap in the wake of the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShaping up to be a clean sweep for Bernie\u2019s endorsements last night,\u201d Shakir wrote<\/a> in a social media<\/a> post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview<\/a> with The New York Times<\/a> last month, Sanders said that his goal with the endorsements is \u201cbuilding a movement for the future\u201d capable of not just taking on President Donald Trump\u2019s Republican Party<\/a>, but also the Democratic Party<\/a> establishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur effort is to lead a national movement against Trump\u2019s\u00a0authoritarianism<\/a>\u00a0and kleptocracy and unnecessary wars and his contempt for the Constitution,\u201d Sanders told the Times. \u201cBut equally important, the American people need an alternative to the Democratic establishment, which is significantly dominated by big-money interests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
