James\/San Francisco Chronicle via Getty Images)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cIf the Democratic Party wants to beat Republicans and win back a majority in November, they need to listen to their voters and usher in a new generation of fighters.\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/author\/jake-johnson\">Jake Johnson<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jun 10, 2026 (CommonDreams.org)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Progressive candidates have swept to victory against establishment opponents in Democratic primary races across the US, including on Tuesday, as voters turn out in support of working-class champions who have spurned corporate money and vowed to pursue transformative change at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/bernie-sanders-endorsement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">national, state, and local levels<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/working-families-party\">Working Families Party<\/a>&nbsp;(WFP) celebrated a five-for-five sweep for the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/us-house\">US House<\/a>&nbsp;candidates it backed in California primaries, as Mai Vang, Connie Chan, Aisha Wahab, Randy Villegas, and Angela Gonzales-Torres each advanced to the November general election. As Common Dreams&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/randy-villegas-dccc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, Villegas\u2014who is running to unseat incumbent Rep. We\u2019re electing a new generation of leaders who won\u2019t put up with being pushed around by billionaire elites.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WFP, along with US Sen.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/bernie-sanders\">Bernie Sanders<\/a>&nbsp;(I-Vt.) and other&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/progressives\">progressives<\/a>, also backed Graham Platner in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/tag\/maine\">Maine<\/a>, where he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/graham-platner-wins-primary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">won a landslide victory<\/a>&nbsp;over Democratic Gov.
