Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a> stated<\/a> on Wednesday that he will not end the military occupation of Lebanon<\/a> even if it tanks US President Donald Trump\u2019s peace deal with Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs long as I am prime minister, we will maintain the security zone in southern Lebanon,\u201d he said, referring to Israel\u2019s occupation, which has cleared<\/a> about one-fifth of the country of its inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About 1.2 million residents have been displaced<\/a> by Israeli attacks and forced evacuation orders since March as part of a military campaign that\u2019s killed about 4,200 people, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Trump seeks an end to his war with Iran, the Iranian delegation has stressed that it must be peace \u201con all fronts,\u201d including Lebanon, which was outlined in the memorandum of understanding that has served as the basis for ongoing negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
