Photo courtesy of Pelosi&#8217;s office.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi\u2019s communications director, Ian Krager, will be Supervisor Connie Chan\u2019s congressional campaign\u2019s communications director starting Aug. 1, according to Chan\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Political consultants say the move is yet another sign that Pelosi is putting her thumb on the scale for Chan. Pelosi endorsed Chan on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2026\/05\/san-francisco-nancy-pelosi-connie-chan-congress\/\">May 18<\/a>&nbsp;and has since shepherded her through major fundraising opportunities in Washington. And, now, she is offering Chan the top talent on her team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Krager, 26, is one of the last two communications staffers left in Pelosi\u2019s office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has been the honor of a lifetime to help tell the story of Speaker Pelosi\u2019s historic leadership for San Francisco and America,\u201d Krager, who\u2019s been Pelosi\u2019s communications director since July 2024, said in a statement. \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to join Connie Chan\u2019s campaign at this pivotal moment.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Krager, who will relocate to San Francisco, is expected to bring Chan more news coverage in more prominent newspapers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s doing everything she can to get [Chan] elected,\u201d said Nadia Rahman, who was the political director of Saikat Chakrabarti\u2019s congressional campaign and now supports Chan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Campaigns are a different beast versus communications work in the capital, but Krager has the experience of dealing with and building relationships with reporters at every level from local news to international news as Pelosi\u2019s spokesperson, said Rahman. It\u2019s something no one else in this race currently has, she added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chan\u2019s current campaign spokesperson and consultant Julie Edwards will stay on as a consultant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision followed Chan\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/newspack-missionlocal.s3.amazonaws.com\/mission\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Chan-D.C.-meetings.pdf\">two-day trip<\/a>&nbsp;to Washington last week that included&nbsp; a meeting with Pelosi on Wednesday early afternoon, and an evening reception hosted by both Pelosi and Sen.
