Demand political leaders in Oakland and Berkeley agree to the demands of the homeless.<\/p>\n<p>On August 24, 2018, the San Francisco Bay Area Landless Peoples Alliance (BALPA) began the campaign to demand political leaders in the cities of Oakland and Berkeley to sign our Declaration of Campaign for the Human Rights of Landless People.<\/p>\n<p>BALPA is led by homeless and formerly homeless organizers working together to mobilize to end the human rights violations against our communities. In the Declaration of Campaign for the Human Rights of Landless People, BALPA demands the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong>First:<\/strong>\u00a0All criminalization of homelessness must end immediately.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Second:<\/strong>\u00a0To live in dignity landless people in \u201csafe havens\u201d will be allowed to self-govern.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Third:<\/strong>\u00a0Collective punishment and all other activity designed to undermine \u201csafe havens\u201d will end.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fourth:<\/strong>\u00a0All confiscation of landless people\u2019s property will end, and all property immediately returned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fifth:<\/strong>\u00a0Officials will communicate to all public agencies the location and status of all sanctioned encampments to coordinate transitional housing services.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sixth:<\/strong>\u00a0Resolve that all landless people have the human right to assert self-defense against prosecution for activities necessary for survival.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seventh:<\/strong>\u00a0All new housing shall prioritize housing for landless people and truly low-income people.<\/p>\n<p>The full text of these demands can be found\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mclihumanrights.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Declaration-of-Campaign-for-the-Human-Rights-of-Landless-People.pdf\">here\u00a0<\/a>in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mclihumanrights.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Declaration-of-Campaign-for-the-Human-Rights-of-Landless-People.pdf\">Declaration of Campaign for the Human Rights of Landless People<\/a>. But the corporation&#8217;s get to use &#8220;federal land&#8221; as they see fit.<\/p>\n<p>We end homelessness by providing housing. Tiny homes on homesteads is not being discussed.
