Below are four things the Democrats can do to delay the Supreme Court vote.
Here is what Democrats can and should do:
- Demand “Unanimous Consent” on every Senate vote between now and November 30th. This will drastically slow things down.
- Use the Democratic majority in the House to block important legislation like lifting the debt ceiling and passing a budget. The House can threaten to not raise the debt ceiling or pass a CR on the budget unless the GOP agrees to delay the nomination until after the election. Problem solved.
- Flood the Senate with impeachment hearings until after the election. There’s no limit on the number of times a president can be impeached and impeachment hearings take priority over confirmation hearings. If the House sends new charges, the Senate must take them up.
- Expand the Supreme Court with new justices if Biden wins. If we win the Presidency, House and Senate — which polling suggests is likely — there’s no law stopping us from expanding the court. We should do it and fill them with progressive justices. It’s only fair.
We all know what’s at stake. And we’re not ready to give up yet.
Let’s keep fighting,
