Join the NLG-SFBA as we seek to confront this urgent issue by learning about historical and current root causes of the crises, current organizing efforts, and how we can all take action by bridging our struggles here and internationally!
Join attorneys and community organizers for conversation on the history and relationship between gender-based and sexual violence and migration. Escalating numbers of femicides and anti-LGBTQ+ laws/actions in locations around the world are major drivers of forced migration. Learn how international grassroots movements are fighting against these discriminatory forces and about their experiences pursuing justice!

Certain types of car towings are referred to as “poverty tows” because they have nothing to do with public safety- rather, they are inflicted simply because a person cannot pay parking tickets or their car registration fees, and they hugely disproportionately impact folks with less money, including folks who live in their cars.
During the pandemic, San Francisco actually suspended these types of tows, because they are punitive and have nothing to do with public safety. Also, they actually cost the city money overall, because often times the folks who can’t pay their parking tickets also can’t pay the fee to get their car back, so the city has to bear the cost of the tow truck and labor.
These poverty tows disproportionately affect San Francisco’s low-income communities of color, and we need to end them permanently. Many of our unhoused neighbors live in their cars and this practice perpetuates the cycle of homelessness by stripping them of their only shelter, often taking many or all of their personal belongings along with their car.
SFMTA’s own Board of Directors said based on the SFMTA’s current data, they would have voted not to reinstate tows if given the opportunity. We’re gathering on Wednesday to tell the SFMTA to stop poverty tows once again, and to end the practice permanently.

people not only of Japan but the world. Despite the pleas of doctors and many healthcare workers in Japan who are overloaded with covid patients, the government has said it doesn’t matter what they or the people of Japan think about the Olympics.
Over 80% of the people oppose having the Olympics in the midst of a full scale pandemic but the IOC and Japan government with the support of Secretary of State Blinken and the the Biden administration could care less. The profits for NBC and the media companies come first for the IOC and the Japanese government.
It is the people be damned for these politicians, governments and the IOC. Japanese medical doctors are even warning of a possible Tokyo Olympic Covid variant coming out of these events which will bring tens of thousands of people from around the world to Japan for the Olympics.
The Suga Japanese government is also planning to release over a million tons of radioactive water from Fukushima where the burned nuclear reactor plants continue to leak radioactive materialmore than ten years after the melt-downs.
Nuclear clean-up workers including workers from overseas and other workers continue to get contaminated with no proper health and safety education and tens of thousands of bags of radioactive waste continue to remain scattered throughout the prefecture with no place to go. The government is also seeking to spread the contaminated waste throughout Japan in road construction and other projects.
No Nukes Action asks you to join us and speak out to demand the cancellation of the Olympics, the halt to re-opening Japan’s nuclear plants and defense of the Fukushima people. We oppose as well the militarization of Asia supported by the US and Biden along with Congressional leader Nancy Pelosi. Thiis includes the building of the new Haneko base in Okinawa.
The Biden Administration has chosen to echo the same propaganda claims against China that were made by Trump’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Both the Trump & Biden administration are charging the Chinese government with the crime of genocide against a minority people, the Uighurs, in Xinjiang Autonomous Region in western China. This campaign coincides with an economic war with China, which includes tariffs and sanctions. It also comes as the Pentagon has announced a new military doctrine which prioritizes and prepares the United States with a war on China.
What are the facts? Is China actually carrying out a genocide against this minority Muslim population? Or, is this one more demonization campaign waged by the US government against a targeted country in preparation for confrontation? After-all, the US insisted that Sadam Hussein was a threat to world peace because Iraq possessed Weapons of Mass Destruction, and used that rationale to justify a war against Iraq. There were no Weapons of Mass Destruction. That war that took more than one million lives, was based on lies.
The webinar will feature a Canadian journalist who has been covering the events in Xinjiang, there will also be a historical review of the US government’s involvement in genocide against indigenous people in what is now the United States. And there will be eyewitness reports from legal experts and scholars who have visited Xinjiang.
Tenants of the last two public housing developments in San Francisco, Sunnydale and Potrero Hill, alongside Oakland public housing tenants, will protest the nationwide privatization of public housing and intentional neglect by the San Francisco and Oakland Housing Authorities.
This protest is part of a nationally coordinated effort with public housing tenants in New York and Boston, who on June 10th are protesting Bank of America, which funds and profits from gentrification and the privatization of public housing across the country.
In San Francisco, Sunnydale and Potrero Hill tenants are protesting the HOPE SF scheme, which is destroying their homes to pave the way for private developers Mercy Housing and Related California at Sunnydale, and BRIDGE Housing at Potrero Hill, to make a huge profit from pushing people out of their homes and building luxury condos.
The HOPE SF scheme isn’t about “revitalizing” San Francisco, it’s a plan by the politicians, real estate developers, and banks including Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and JP Morgan Chase to get richer.
San Francisco tenants and Cypress Village tenants from Oakland are also speaking out against SFHA’s and OHA’s deliberate neglect of basic repairs and maintenance of buildings, which is part of their strategy to justify handing public housing to the banks and developers. All the while, the Housing Authorities are corrupt and show favoritism to certain tenants. After many families have lost work due to the pandemic, the Housing Authorities have not adjusted their rents, forcing people to pay more than they can afford. Housing Authorities also charge families with mixed immigration status a higher percentage of their income.
We Colombians and Palestinians in the Bay Area are rising together on Sunday, June 13, because our struggles are intertwined. As our people are terrorized, violently dispossessed and murdered by US-funded colonial states and corrupt government leaders we are coming together in beautiful, joyful, mournful, fierce resistance. We invite you to join us as we gather in front of the Israeli and Colombian consulates (which are in the same building) to demand our people’s liberation from oppressive systems and accountability for the violence waged against our people, while weaving together our communities and struggles in a rally and street mural
