The climate emergency is sweeping Athens with highs of 47 degrees Celsius, the highest continuous temperatures in the last 40 years. Thousands of refugees are sleeping on the streets of Athens and yet more are fleeing the city and sleeping on nearby beaches. Greece’s deputy civil protection minister, Nikos Hardalias, said: “We are in a phase of absolute climate destabilisation.
