Register: Meeting Registration – Zoom

The military-industrial complex promotes and profits from the creation of militarized borders all over the world. The same corporations, investors, and public agencies that fuel the war industry also create and maintain walls, surveillance technologies, weapons, police training, and prison facilities that divide peoples and destroy natural environments in the supposedly non-war zones of national borders.

This webinar will focus on the US-Mexico borderland in Arizona where the US war industry is highly visible and very actively engaged in the business of white supremacy. Presenters will share their first-hand experiences and research into the nature of this profiteering beast and its ongoing predations.

Speakers:

Todd Miller has researched and written about border issues for more than 15 years, the last eight as an independent journalist and writer. He resides in Tucson, Arizona, but also has spent many years living and working in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Nellie Jo David works to strengthen indigenous rights and autonomy on the imposed U.S./Mexico borderlands intersecting the Tohono O’odham Nation. Nellie is co-founder of the O’odham Anti Border Collective, a grassroots group dedicated to maintaining connections despite colonial barriers. She is from Ajo, Arizona, traditionally Hia-Ced O’odham territory, just west of the Tohono O’odham reservation, North of Mexico.

Joanne Coutts is an independent cartographer, writer and activist whose work focuses on the Sonoran Desert. She is a committed volunteer with Ajo Samaritans and many other humanitarian aid and search and rescue/recovery groups working in the borderlands.

City College of San Francisco
Conlan Hall (Ocean Campus)
SF

With a final vote taking place as early as next week, CCSF Trustees seem prepared to neglect their obligation to defend public education by closing classroom doors to at least 20,566 of the students they were elected to serve.

Despite budget surpluses through fiscal year 2023 and anticipated surpluses for the next 5 years, CCSF Trustees unanimously took a position at an initial vote in February to cut hundreds of fully enrolled classes and layoff 218 full- and part-time faculty, including 58 tenured/tenure-track faculty. If they choose to affirm the downsizing plan at their final vote at the beginning of May this will perpetuate CCSF’s era of cuts, decline, & crisis, and harm the thousands of black, brown, working-class, disabled, and immigrant residents whom CCSF serves.
