1. Petition to MGM: Cancel Ring Nation

Amazon Ring has over 2,000 partnerships with police departments across the country. Ring surveillance cameras directly expand the power of police and incentivize community members to engage in racist policing, targeting Black and Brown people in their neighborhoods. Just last year, reports revealed that the Los Angeles Police Department gained access to Ring footage from Black Lives Matter protests.

Now, Amazon is partnering with MGM Studios to create a television show, titled Ring Nation, to promote and romanticize this surveillance technology.

Ring surveillance cameras pose a direct threat to our privacy, and Ring’s partnerships with the police subvert our Fourth Amendment rights.

Millions of people— including users, their families, and casual bystanders—are surveilled daily by Ring cameras. Our whereabouts are tracked. The things we do and say are recorded.

2. Tuesday, 11:00am, Hunger Strike For Justice – The Fight For Non-Profit Workers Right To Organize (Press Conference)

In-person

Centro Del Pueblo
474 Valencia Street
San Francisco, Ca 94103

Maria Cristina Gutierrez, a Frisco five hunger striker, will begin a hunger strike to demand THE FIGHT FOR NON-PROFIT WORKERS RIGHT TO ORGANIZE.

Gabriel Medina became the Executive Director of La Raza Resource center,  a little over a year ago. Under Medina’s leadership La Raza Resource Center has gone through serious problems and staff turnover. He has mismanaged programs and finances, mistreated staff, and refused to take responsibility. Most of the tenured workers at La Raza’s have lost confidence in Medina. The workers raised concerns with La Raza Resource Center Board of Directors. The La Raza Resource Center Board of Directors refused to listen to workers and decided to protect Medina instead, causing the need for workers to protest him and demand him to resign.

The long-time leadership team at La Raza Resource Center were either forced to resign or were fired by Medina in retaliation for protesting and whistle blowing. A food bank worker, Sergio Sosa, supported his ex-coworkers by peacefully protesting Gabriel Medina every Tuesday during his lunch break. In retaliation, Medina terminated Sosa under false accusations. The Justice for Sergio Sosa Committee was formed after his firing.

The workers of Companeros del Barrio and other community members rally in solidarity with Sergio Sosa. It has continued to peacefully protest on Tuesdays demanding justice for Sergio Sosa, the right for workers to organize and the resignation of Medina.

Gabriel Medina, La Raza Resource Center Board of Directors and Centro del Pueblo Board of Directors have been tirelessly trying to silence the peaceful protest. They have gone so far as calling protesters violent and hired private security. Medina has physically, verbally attacked, and harassed protesters. Medina has escalated his defense by blaming Companeros Del Barrio for the workers protest and calling for mediation between 2 agencies. Companeros del Barrio has absolutely nothing against La Raza Resource center. Nevertheless, the Board of Directors of Centro del Pueblo has refused to respect the explanation that, Companeros del Barrio as an agency,  has nothing to do with this. Its workers are coming out on their own in solidarity with the worker Sergio Sosa.

n response to the continual effort of trying to silence the truth about Gabriel Medina and Centro del Pueblo Board of Directors, and its efforts to destroy the integrity and reputation of Companeros del Barrio preschool and family day care, Maria Cristina Gutierrez from the Frisco Five hunger strike, will be going on a hunger strike at Centro Del Pueblo with the following demands:

1.Stop retaliation by Gabriel Medina, La Raza resource center Board of directors, and Centro del Pueblo Board of Directors against workers’ right to organize. DISMANTLE THE SO-CALLED ETHICS POLICY CREATED BY CENTRO DEL PUEBLO BOARD OF DIRECTORS.

2. Stop retaliation from Gabriel Medina, La Raza Resource center board of directors and Centro del Pueblo Board of Directors against Companeros del Barrio because its workers came out in solidarity with Sergio Sosa. NO TO MEDIATION

3. Centro del Pueblo must stop the forgery of minutes, not allowing minutes to reflect what actually happens in meetings “because it does not help the needs of the Corporation”. PRODUCE ALL RECORDED MINUTES NOW

4. Accountability from member organization Board of Directors to Centro del Pueblo, about who they send to represent them, Gabriel Medina resigns, Amanda Ford resigns, and Sam Moss resign

5. Justice for Sergio Sosa! REPARATIONS

4. Tuesday, 6:00pm, 50th Anniversary of Martial Law Mobilization

In person

Philippine Consulate
447 Sutter St. (nr. Powell)
SF

Martial Law Anniversary and Prayer Circle

Reject Marcos – Duterte!

Never Again to Martial Law

As some of you have already attended and supported our biggest mobilization of the year in July, we see that this mobilization is furthermore necessary to show our strong condemnation against the Marcos restoration. The Philippines elections, stolen by the Marcos, illustrated how electoral fraud, attacks on civil liberties, and massive theft altered the results of the elections. As Marcos Jr. continues his father’s legacy of neoliberal attacks and political repression, this regime is also trying to revise history by painting the martial law period as the “golden years”. Hours later as Marcos Jr. got into office, US President Biden gave his full support for the new regime, being one of the first countries to congratulate Marcos Jr. victory.

Particularly this year Marcos Jr. and VP Sara Duterte (daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte) are set to travel to the United States in September to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and UN’s Transforming Education Summit.

As organizations in the US, we play a crucial role in fighting back against disinformation campaigns and historical revisions put on by the Marcos regime and giving justice to the victims and martyrs of Martial law. Thus, in response to the arrival of Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte, we stand by this message: Learn from history, fight for the future! Reject and fight the US-Marcos Regime! Tuloy ang Laban!

Malaya Movement, BAYAN USA, ICHRP-US and other supporting organizations will be organizing a mobilization in protest

5. Tuesday, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Send a Message to Chase: Stop Funding Climate Chaos

In person

Chase Center
1 Warriors Way
SF

Why this action?

JP Morgan Chase is hosting their annual corporate challenge, a touring 3.5 mile race, in San Francisco on September 20. We’re kicking off their tour with attention getting action that will make our message clear: Chase must stop funding the climate crisis, and we will not stop until they do.

Why blame Wall Street?

JPMorgan Chase is the world’s largest funder of the fossil fuel industry.
In the six years after the Paris Agreement was adopted in late 2015, Chase provided nearly $382 billion to fossil fuel corporations that are building coal mines, oil pipelines and fracked gas terminals ― that’s 36% more than any other bank in the world.

PUSH Synopsis: Housing prices are skyrocketing in cities around the world. Incomes are not. PUSH sheds light on a new kind of faceless landlord, our increasingly unliveable cities and an escalating crisis that has an effect on us all. This is not gentrification, it’s a new kind of monster. The film follows Leilani Farha, the UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing, as she travels the globe, trying to understand who’s being pushed out of the city and why. “I believe there’s a huge difference between housing as a commodity and gold as a commodity. Gold is not a human right, housing is,” says Leilani.

Thursday, September 22

8. Thursday, 12Noon – 1:00pm,  SF Chronicle: End Your Silence On The Jailing and Extradition of Julian Assange!

In person

Press Conference/Speak Out at SF Chronicle on September 22, 2022 12:00 Noon.

The continued incarceration and possible extradition of Australian journalist and publisher Julian Assange is a threat not only to all journalists in the world but publishers such as the SF Chronicle.

Using the Espionage Act, even though he is not a US citizen, the US government is prosecuting the supposed crime of releasing documents that expose war crimes and atrocities committed by the US war machine in Iraq.

Of course the perpetrators of the US crimes in Iraq have never been proscuted but the whistleblower Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, is being prosecuted.

We must raise our voices to defend whistleblowers and independent journalists being censored and persecuted for revealing the truth and reporting on issues that people need to know.

Assange is a member of the Australian journnalist’s union MEAA member since 2007. The Pacific Media Workers Guild, which represents journalists at the San Francisco Chronicle, and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) have also calld for his freedom. Nearly all journalist unions throughout the world are demanding his freedom.

We urge the San Francisco Chronicle and all news publishers both print and online to join the call for his freedom.

Host: Bay Area Committee to Free Julian Assange
