Citizen Coyotes of SF – 31 Aug ’24 Presentation by Janet Kessler
The San Francisco Public Library will be hosting a presentation Citizen Coyotes of San Francisco by Janet Kessler on Saturday, Aug 31, 3-4.30 pm. Reservations are required: Call (415) 355-5656. (SFPL’s website is here: sfpl.org)
Janet’s a nature photographer and naturalist who has been following SF’s coyotes for nearly two decades, and can recognize most of them by face. She’s collaborated with Dr Benjamin Sacks’ genetics lab at UC Davis. She understands how they live, their territories and how they defend them, how they mate and breed.
She knows their stories.
Janet maintains and regularly updates a blog at https://coyoteyipps.com/ and is on Instagram as @coyoteyipps. (Avoid Coyote_yip – it’s full of dead animals.)
For the animal-lovers amongst us, there’s also a great book by Brandon Keim that came out recently – Meet the Neighbors: Animal Minds and Life in a More-than-Human World.
It’s about urban wildlife of all kinds, and there’s a whole section on coyotes and Janet Kessler. We found it humane, compassionate, thoughtful and informative.
