RALLY FOR MONKEYPOX RESPONSE

Monkeypox is circulating in our community, and beyond, and the federal government must do more to respond to this urgent health concern. Monkeypox is not exclusive to our LGBTQ+ community, but we are already being blamed for the emerging crisis. We’re being told to limit contact with people, or just wear condoms. People aren’t educated in that *anyone* can transmit this disease, as simple as skin to skin contact.
We are demanding a more robust response that actually addresses this growing health concern NOW.
Please join us at the San Francisco Regional Office of U.S. Health and Human Services for an afternoon of action, speakers, and information to address this emerging crisis.
We are demanding that the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention as well as the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services immediately take the following actions:
INCREASE ACCESS: The federal government must immediately increase vaccine supply and distribution through community-based organizations and trusted health care providers. Access to testing and treatment must be expanded and streamlined.
ENSURE EQUITY: Ensure that testing and vaccines are made available to all people who may be at risk of monkeypox, including gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, sex workers, and trans and non-binary folks. Ensure that BIPOC community members who may be at risk are prioritized.
FIGHT STIGMA: Balance the need for population-specific messaging with non-stigmatizing, sex positive, health communication and public health response strategies.
