Senate Democrats will soon face a choice: protect our democracy and pass the For the People Act, or protect the filibuster – an outdated and abused “Jim Crow relic.”
The crisis facing our democracy couldn’t be more real, and – thanks to existential threats like the climate crisis – couldn’t be more urgent.
That’s why we need climate hawks like you to get involved in the fight to restore our democracy.
We’ve asked you to sign petitions. Now it’s time for the next step: a virtual town hall with Senator Jeff Merkley and Senator Elizabeth Warren next Monday, May 17 for a live discussion about what needs to be done to end the filibuster, protect our democracy, and create a pathway for serious climate legislation.
What: Virtual Town Hall with Sen. Jeff Merkley and Sen. Elizabeth Warren
When: Monday, May 17 at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT
Where: RSVP HERE
You’ve heard us talk about the importance of the For the People Act before — about how it brings voting rights protections and democracy reforms that are not only essential to protecting our democratic process, but also critical for making sure we can pass legislation that a majority of Americans support, including strong climate action bills.
The For the People Act recently passed by the House and will soon be taken up by the Senate. The one thing that stands in its way is the filibuster, Mitch McConnell’s favorite tool of obstruction, and a tactic traditionally used to block civil rights legislation.
To learn more about the bill, what it means for our country, and what you can do to get involved, sign up now for the event next Monday with Sen. Jeff Merkley and Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
We hope to see you there!
PS: Can’t wait? You can do something to help right now. Take a moment to tell the Senate: pass the For the People Act.
