HARD CONVERSATIONS: WHITENESS, RACE, and SOCIAL JUSTICE

A 5-Week Online Seminar and Virtual Classroom via Zoom from 8-9:30 EDT (5-6:30 PDT) on September 15, 22, 29, October 6 and 13.

“Until you can recognize you are living a racialized life and you’re having racialized experiences every moment of every day, you can’t actually engage people of other races around the idea of justice.” — Whitney Dow, The Whiteness Project

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE WHITE IN A RACIST WORLD?
We will examine the social construction of race and Whiteness, the historical origins of white supremacy and whiteness as an identity, and how to develop a solidarity-based White identity.

    MEET THE HOSTS:
VICTOR LEE LEWIS, MA, is Founder and Director of the Radical Resilience Institute. He is a nationally-recognized speaker, consultant, trainer, social justice educator and writer. He is best known for his inspiring leadership role in The Color of Fear, an unusually powerful video about racism which received the Golden Apple Award for “Best Social Studies Documentary” of 1995 from the National Educational Media Association. http://www.radicalresilience.com

Emergency Meeting to Respond to massive ICE Raids.
    Sunday, 1/21, 3-5:30PM
Sports Basement, 1590 Bryant St., San Francisco
    (1st floor conference room)
    https://www.facebook.com/events/311667262686650/

This past week ICE has arrested prominent immigrants rights leaders and raided nearly 100 7-Eleven stores nationwide. And now word has leaked of the biggest round of immigration raids yet — with plans to arrest 1,500 people — specifically targeting the Bay Area to go after sanctuary cities. This is a fascist, and very explicitly political assault.

This is really a “then they came for the immigrants” moment – the Bay Area has to say “NO!” in a lot of ways and through different expressions. Groups and and individuals, everyone needs to take part, with a spirit in line with the airport protests of last January.

Join us for an emergency mass meeting to respond to the ICE raids that are set to target immigrants within the Bay Area in the next few weeks. THIS CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO GO DOWN. “First the came for the immigrants…” It is up to us to stop them! Join us to discuss the situation and make plans for mass resistance.

In the name of humanity, we REFUSE to allow our brothers and sisters to be taken!

In the name of Humanity, We Refuse to Accept a Fascist America!

6:00-6:45: Panel of women that are experts and leaders in the social sector. You will hear from leaders in Women’s Clinics, Homelessness, Mental Health, Education, and LGBTQ. (Speaker Names Coming Soon).
6:45-7:45: Breakout Sessions! You and a small group wlll work together to create an Action Plan related to women in one of the above social sectors; focusing on making the world a more free, equal, and safe place for everyone.

  11. Kelly says:

Hi, I just want you to know that there is going to be an event in San Francisco hosted by a Rupert Murdock company called Remodelista. The Event takes place at Heath Ceramics, 2900 18th Street, San Francisco, CA 94110; December 10th and 11th. We are crafts people at the event and we are choosing not to participate after learning Rupert Murdock recent holdings in this company. This is our act of Protest against the election of Trump and Rupert Murdocks media’s falsehoods. We will notify all the vendors at this event of our decision. We would love to see a peaceful and vocal protest out side the event. It is very important for the shoppers to know that they are giving Rupert Murdock their money. How can we get word out to let people know that our voice needs to be heard? Our Money counts and hitting them at their pocket book helps. Remodelista is also putting together an event in Portland. We are attempting to make contact with other activist to put together a vocal group. If you have any connections please let them know our cause. Thank you.
