The decision came down in December 1993, Judge James Swearingen presiding,<\/p>\n<div>And that James Earl Ray was found NOT GUILTY in Martin Luther King&#8217;s death. Not questioning or even allowing the space to be filled with any explanations, they attack&#8230;you, the message, the kitchen sink.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">These are the ones who most shock me. Their reaction is so intense, so needful of utter immediate denial that perhaps one can deduce that in some part of their consciousness you&#8217;ve just broached a reality they know to be true and yet have buried far, far away from those threads of truth that they almost pray will never reach their brains again in this lifetime.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">They are the walking dead.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">And they can be, at least on the surface, the most congenial and generous of souls. It would seem in their little solipsistic world, a fairy tale world of illusions where\u00a0&#8220;all\u00a0will be\u00a0well in the garden&#8221; to quote Chauncey Gardiner in the movie\u00a0Being There, a garden of their own careful cultivating, resembling some Disneyland caricature of a very safe, tucked away world without weeds and thorns, it would seem in their little solipsistic world there exists no disfiguring roots gnarling their way through very dark and insect infested soil. The sun shines down upon the surface only. There are no dead, discolored leaves visible that could conceivably be turned over. For what horror might one discover should even the gentlest of breezes disturb the tranquility of their heaven on earth Hollywood scenery.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">And then one comes along with the news that their government does not really exist to support that illusion. It is not there to comfort one&#8217;s picture perfect self portraiture. In fact that government, or at least a Deep State within that government, has a very nefarious, insidious, and war ridden agenda that exposes the cosmetic covering they have been calling &#8220;life&#8221; all their lives.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">They lash out violently. You have disturbed something very sacred to them. You have told them &#8220;God is Dead&#8221; or the mother of their children has been prostituting herself for decades to pay the bills\u00a0or Father O&#8217;Malley molested your 13 year old daughter. You have defiled their altar by exposing the truth.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">And yet these observers who pride themselves on their civic awareness, who consider themselves well informed about the things of the world, who can converse about the daily news, locally, nationally, and internationally, because that also is part of their storybook routines of life, they know that their government lied to them to take this country into a war that has now lasted for over almost\u00a0sixteen years. A pack of lies was fed to them about Saddam Hussein being involved in 9\/11, that he had Weapons of Mass Destruction,\u00a0and was developing a nuclear bomb that we couldn&#8217;t wait for it to appear in the form of a mushroom cloud.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">We all knew this because none of it turned out to be even close to the Truth after we invaded the sovereignty of a country of fellow human beings, of families just like ours, with a military theatrical bombardment of state of the art weaponry that our mainstream media in Wide Screen Panavision labeled &#8220;Shock and Awe&#8221;.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Sometime after that, on apparently only a sub-conscious level, in reaction to the discovery of this greatest twenty first century pack of lies, we elected our first Black President\u00a0by whose inauguration we seemed to have brought the Truth of 9\/11 to a conscious level only to have this One, the One Percent Anointed One, take us even further\u00a0into at least five or six more wars based on the original Grand Lie. We chose to close our eyes and pretend that we didn&#8217;t really see what our eyes had seen and our ears had heard and our minds had grasped. We apparently preferred pretense to confronting the original lie.\u00a0We apparently preferred\u00a0only a vapid image of a president of Conscience blurring our vision to ease our denial of reality proclivities than to confront The Un-Confrontable, all was not well in the garden of America.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">So, this category of individual who\u00a0suffers his or her own &#8220;shock and awe&#8221; when hearing that 9\/11 was an inside job, presented to us by the Deep State,\u00a0morphed into yet another category of persons, a larger constituency,\u00a0who populate our whole body politic and who chose to not hold to account the man they elected to right the ship of American democratic values but instead thrust it headlong into an even more convoluted and precarious ventures of American exceptional hubris and sell out to the military-industrial-congressional-security complex.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">That category is the majority of US who do not stand in protest at military installations throughout this country, who do not stand on street corners in America reminding the deadened among us we are still &#8220;AT WAR&#8221; and making life horrific for other people&#8217;s families, and who do not go to Town Hall meetings of representatives on recess\u00a0to demand of them that they confront the Original Sin of this country in the Twenty First Century that\u00a0their first and second and now third president\u00a0of this century have and are tripling down on.\u00a0A Lie so excruciatingly terrible that\u00a0it tears at\u00a0not just the foundations of\u00a0Democracy and our Constitution, but also at the very fabric of Human Decency and\u00a0the\u00a0place\u00a0of Human Reason, Common Sense, and Critical\u00a0Thinking in our lives necessary\u00a0to\u00a0save\u00a0humankind from itself, but instead\u00a0destroys the very planet upon which we survive.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>__Bob<\/div>\n<p><strong>Provoking Nuclear War by Media<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>By John Pilger<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>August 23, 2016 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.informationclearinghouse.info\/\">Information Clearing House<\/a>&#8221; &#8211; &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/op-edge\/356846-provoking-nuclear-war-media\/\">RT<\/a>&#8221; &#8211; The exoneration of a man accused of the worst of crimes, genocide, made no headlines. Neither the BBC nor CNN covered it. The Guardian allowed a brief commentary. Such a rare official admission was buried or suppressed, understandably. It would explain too much about how the rulers of the world rule.<\/p>\n<p>The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY)\u00a0has quietly cleared the late Serbian president, Slobodan Milosevic, of war crimes committed during the 1992-95 Bosnian war, including the massacre at Srebrenica.<\/p>\n<p>Far from conspiring with the convicted Bosnian-Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, Milosevic actually <em>\u201ccondemned ethnic cleansing\u201d<\/em>, opposed Karadzic and tried to stop the war that dismembered Yugoslavia. Buried near the end of a 2,590-page judgement on Karadzic last February, this truth further demolishes the propaganda that justified Nato\u2019s illegal onslaught on Serbia in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>Milosevic died of a heart attack in 2006, alone in his cell in The Hague, during what amounted to a bogus trial by an American-invented <em>\u201cinternational tribunal\u201d<\/em>. Denied heart surgery that might have saved his life, his condition worsened and was monitored and kept secret by US officials, as WikiLeaks has since revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Milosevic was the victim of war propaganda that today runs like a torrent across our screens and newspapers and beckons great danger for us all. He was the prototype demon, vilified by the western media as the <em>\u201cbutcher of the Balkans\u201d<\/em> who was responsible for <em>\u201cgenocide\u201d<\/em>, especially in the secessionist Yugoslav province of Kosovo. Prime Minister Tony Blair said so, invoked the Holocaust and demanded action against <em>\u201cthis new Hitler\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>David Scheffer, the US ambassador-at-large for war crimes [sic], declared that as many as <em>\u201c225,000 ethnic Albanian men aged between 14 and 59\u201d<\/em> may have been murdered by Milocevic\u2019s forces.<\/p>\n<p>This was the justification for Nato\u2019s bombing, led by Bill Clinton and Blair, that killed hundreds of civilians in hospitals, schools, churches, parks and television studios and destroyed Serbia\u2019s economic infrastructure. It was blatantly ideological; at a notorious<em>\u201cpeace conference\u201d<\/em> in Rambouillet in France, Milosevic was confronted by Madeleine Albright, the US secretary of state, who was to achieve infamy with her remark that the deaths of half a million Iraqi children were <em>\u201cworth it\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Albright delivered an <em>\u201coffer\u201d<\/em> to Milosevic that no national leader could accept. Unless he agreed to the foreign military occupation of his country, with the occupying forces <em>\u201coutside the legal process\u201d<\/em>, and to the imposition of a neo-liberal <em>\u201cfree market\u201d<\/em>, Serbia would be bombed. This was contained in an \u201cAppendix B\u201d, which the media failed to read or suppressed. The aim was to crush Europe\u2019s last independent \u201csocialist\u201d state.<\/p>\n<p>Once Nato began bombing, there was a stampede of Kosovar refugees <em>\u201cfleeing a holocaust\u201d.<\/em> When it was over, international police teams descended on Kosovo to exhume the victims. The FBI failed to find a single mass grave and went home. The Spanish forensic team did the same, its leader angrily denouncing <em>\u201ca semantic pirouette by the war propaganda machines\u201d<\/em>. The final count of the dead in Kosovo was 2,788. This included combatants on both sides and Serbs and Roma murdered by the pro-Nato Kosovo Liberation Front. There was no genocide. The Nato attack was both a fraud and a war crime.<\/p>\n<p>All but a fraction of America\u2019s vaunted <em>\u201cprecision guided\u201d<\/em> missiles hit not military but civilian targets, including the news studios of Radio Television Serbia in Belgrade. Sixteen people were killed, including cameramen, producers and a make-up artist. Blair described the dead, profanely, as part of Serbia\u2019s <em>\u201ccommand and control\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, Carla Del Ponte, revealed that she had been pressured not to investigate Nato\u2019s crimes.<\/p>\n<p>This was the model for Washington\u2019s subsequent invasions of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and, by stealth, Syria. All qualify as<em>\u201cparamount crimes\u201d<\/em> under the Nuremberg standard; all depended on media propaganda. While tabloid journalism played its traditional part, it was serious, credible, often liberal journalism that was the most effective \u2013 the evangelical promotion of Blair and his wars by the Guardian, the incessant lies about Saddam Hussein\u2019s non-existent weapons of mass destruction in the Observer and the New York Times, and the unerring drumbeat of government propaganda by the BBC in the silence of its omissions.<\/p>\n<p>At the height of the bombing, the BBC\u2019s Kirsty Wark interviewed General Wesley Clark, the Nato commander. The Serbian city of Nis had just been sprayed with American cluster bombs, killing women, old people and children in an open market and a hospital. Wark asked not a single question about this, or about any other civilian deaths.<\/p>\n<p>Others were more brazen. In February 2003, the day after Blair and Bush had set fire to Iraq, the BBC\u2019s political editor, Andrew Marr, stood in Downing Street and made what amounted to a victory speech. He excitedly told his viewers that Blair had <em>\u201csaid they would be able to take Baghdad without a bloodbath, and that in the end the Iraqis would be celebrating. And on both of those points he has been proved conclusively right.\u201d<\/em> Today, with a million dead and a society in ruins, Marr\u2019s BBC interviews are recommended by the US embassy in London.<\/p>\n<p>Marr\u2019s colleagues lined up to pronounce Blair <em>\u201cvindicated\u201d<\/em>. The BBC\u2019s Washington correspondent, Matt Frei, said, <em>\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt that the desire to bring good, to bring American values to the rest of the world, and especially to the Middle East \u2026 is now increasingly tied up with military power.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This obeisance to the United States and its collaborators as a benign force <em>\u201cbringing good\u201d<\/em> runs deep in western establishment journalism. It ensures that the present-day catastrophe in Syria is blamed exclusively on Bashar al-Assad, whom the West and Israel have long conspired to overthrow, not for any humanitarian concerns, but to consolidate Israel\u2019s aggressive power in the region. The jihadist forces unleashed and armed by the US, Britain, France, Turkey and their \u201ccoalition\u201d proxies serve this end. It is they who dispense the propaganda and videos that becomes news in the US and Europe, and provide access to journalists and guarantee a one-sided <em>\u201ccoverage\u201d<\/em> of Syria.<\/p>\n<p>The city of Aleppo is in the news. Most readers and viewers will be unaware that the majority of the population of Aleppo lives in the government-controlled western part of the city. That they suffer daily artillery bombardment from western-sponsored al-Qaida is not news. On 21 July, French and American bombers attacked a government village in Aleppo province, killing up to 125 civilians. This was reported on page 22 of the Guardian; there were no photographs.<\/p>\n<p>Having created and underwritten jihadism in Afghanistan in the 1980s as Operation Cyclone &#8211; a weapon to destroy the Soviet Union &#8211; the US is doing something similar in Syria. Like the Afghan Mujahideen, the Syrian <em>\u201crebels\u201d<\/em> are America\u2019s and Britain\u2019s foot soldiers. Many fight for al-Qaida and its variants; some, like the Nusra Front, have rebranded themselves to comply with American sensitivities over 9\/11. The CIA runs them, with difficulty, as it runs jihadists all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>The immediate aim is to destroy the government in Damascus, which, according to the most credible poll (YouGov Siraj), the majority of Syrians support, or at least look to for protection, regardless of the barbarism in its shadows. The long-term aim is to deny Russia a key Middle Eastern ally as part of a Nato war of attrition against the Russian Federation that eventually destroys it.<\/p>\n<p>The nuclear risk is obvious, though suppressed by the media across <em>\u201cthe free world\u201d<\/em>. The editorial writers of the Washington Post, having promoted the fiction of WMD in Iraq, demand that Obama attack Syria. Hillary Clinton, who publicly rejoiced at her executioner\u2019s role during the destruction of Libya, has repeatedly indicated that, as president, she will <em>\u201cgo further\u201d<\/em> than Obama.<\/p>\n<p>Gareth Porter, a journalist reporting from Washington, recently revealed the names of those likely to make up a Clinton cabinet, who plan an attack on Syria. All have belligerent cold war histories; the former CIA director, Leon Panetta, says that <em>\u201cthe next president is gonna have to consider adding additional special forces on the ground\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What is most remarkable about the war propaganda now in flood tide is its patent absurdity and familiarity. I have been looking through archive film from Washington in the 1950s when diplomats, civil servants and journalists were witch-hunted and ruined by Senator Joe McCarthy for challenging the lies and paranoia about the Soviet Union and China. Like a resurgent tumor, the anti-Russia cult has returned.<\/p>\n<p>In Britain, the Guardian\u2019s Luke Harding leads his newspaper\u2019s Russia-haters in a stream of journalistic parodies that assign to Vladimir Putin every earthly iniquity. When the Panama Papers leak was published, the front page said Putin, and there was a picture of Putin; never mind that Putin was not mentioned anywhere in the leaks.<\/p>\n<p>Like Milosevic, Putin is Demon Number One. It was Putin who shot down a Malaysian airliner over Ukraine. Headline: <em>\u201cAs far as I\u2019m concerned, Putin killed my son.\u201d<\/em> No evidence required. It was Putin who was responsible for Washington\u2019s documented (and paid for) overthrow of the elected government in Kiev in 2014. The subsequent terror campaign by fascist militias against the Russian-speaking population of Ukraine was the result of Putin\u2019s <em>\u201caggression\u201d<\/em>. Preventing Crimea from becoming a Nato missile base and protecting the mostly Russian population who had voted in a referendum to rejoin Russia \u2013 from which Crimea had been annexed \u2013 were more examples of Putin\u2019s <em>\u201caggression\u201d<\/em>. Smear by media inevitably becomes war by media. If war with Russia breaks out, by design or by accident, journalists will bear much of the responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>In the US, the anti-Russia campaign has been elevated to virtual reality. The New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, an economist with a Nobel Prize, has called Donald Trump the <em>\u201cSiberian Candidate\u201d<\/em> because Trump is Putin\u2019s man, he says. Trump had dared to suggest, in a rare lucid moment, that war with Russia might be a bad idea. In fact, he has gone further and removed American arms shipments to Ukraine from the Republican platform. <em>\u201cWouldn\u2019t it be great if we got along with Russia,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n<p>This is why America\u2019s warmongering liberal establishment hates him. Trump\u2019s racism and ranting demagoguery have nothing to do with it. Bill and Hillary Clinton\u2019s record of racism and extremism can out-trump Trump\u2019s any day. (This week is the 20th anniversary of the Clinton welfare \u201creform\u201d that launched a war on African-Americans). As for Obama: while American police gun down his fellow African-Americans the great hope in the White House has done nothing to protect them, nothing to relieve their impoverishment, while running four rapacious wars and an assassination campaign without precedent.<\/p>\n<p>The CIA has demanded Trump is not elected. Pentagon generals have demanded he is not elected. The pro-war New York Times &#8211; taking a breather from its relentless low-rent Putin smears &#8211; demands that he is not elected. Something is up. These tribunes of<em>\u201cperpetual war\u201d<\/em> are terrified that the multi-billion-dollar business of war by which the United States maintains its dominance will be undermined if Trump does a deal with Putin, then with China\u2019s Xi Jinping. Their panic at the possibility of the world\u2019s great power talking peace \u2013 however unlikely \u2013 would be the blackest farce were the issues not so dire.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTrump would have loved Stalin!\u201d<\/em> bellowed Vice-President Joe Biden at a rally for Hillary Clinton. With Clinton nodding, he shouted, <em>\u201cWe never bow. We never bend. We never kneel. We never yield. We own the finish line. That\u2019s who we are. We are America!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In Britain, Jeremy Corbyn has also excited hysteria from the war-makers in the Labour Party and from a media devoted to trashing him. Lord West, a former admiral and Labour minister, put it well. Corbyn was taking an <em>\u201coutrageous\u201d<\/em> anti-war position <em>\u201cbecause it gets the unthinking masses to vote for him\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In a debate with leadership challenger Owen Smith, Corbyn was asked by the moderator: <em>\u201cHow would you act on a violation by Vladimir Putin of a fellow Nato state?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We found out 20 years later they were lying about Milosevic. They&#8217;re doing the same lying about Assad now<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HKX07\">@HKX07<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/snarwani\">@snarwani<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Souria4Syrians\">@Souria4Syrians<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Quintus Curtius (@QuintusCurtius) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/QuintusCurtius\/status\/766029566636756992\">August 17, 2016<\/a>Corbyn replied: <em>\u201cYou would want to avoid that happening in the first place. You would build up a good dialogue with Russia \u2026 We would try to introduce a de-militarisation of the borders between Russia, the Ukraine and the other countries on the border between Russia and Eastern Europe. What we cannot allow is a series of calamitous build-ups of troops on both sides which can only lead to great danger.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pressed to say if he would authorize war against Russia <em>\u201cif you had to\u201d,<\/em> Corbyn replied: <em>\u201cI don\u2019t wish to go to war \u2013 what I want to do is achieve a world that we don\u2019t need to go to war.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The line of questioning owes much to the rise of Britain\u2019s liberal war-makers. The Labour Party and the media have long offered them career opportunities. For a while the moral tsunami of the great crime of Iraq left them floundering, their inversions of the truth a temporary embarrassment. Regardless of Chilcot and the mountain of incriminating facts, Blair remains their inspiration, because he was a <em>\u201cwinner\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Dissenting journalism and scholarship have since been systematically banished or appropriated, and democratic ideas emptied and refilled with <em>\u201cidentity politics\u201d<\/em> that confuse gender with feminism and public angst with liberation and willfully ignore the state violence and weapons profiteering that destroys countless lives in faraway places, like Yemen and Syria, and beckon nuclear war in Europe and across the world.<\/p>\n<p>The stirring of people of all ages around the spectacular rise of Jeremy Corbyn counters this to some extent. Gates, now President of the Boy Scouts), added to the newest polls that show Sanders clobbering Trump better than his opponent, plus whatever brand new legal baggage comes down the pike, all of which are peripheral to our concerns and priorities in this petition drive, although those factors are in the background.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here it is, plain and simple: as a matter of non-partisan quest for Justice, the purging of 200,000 requires a new primary, and the first steps taken by legal officials and courts toward\u00a0that new primary will prove very\u00a0beneficial to Bernie Sanders. It&#8217;s time to end this out of control police state once and for all.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8211;Bob of Occupy<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * * * *\u00a0<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h1><strong>SF Police Department is a total godawful mess, panel concludes<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>Blue-Ribbon group finds disaster everywhere, putting more pressure on embattled Chief Suhr<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>BY\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/48hills.org\/author\/tim\/\">TIM REDMOND<\/a>\u00a0&#8211;<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>May 9, 2016<\/p>\n<p>The district attorney\u2019s special task force investigating the San Francisco Police Department issued a devastating preliminary report tonight suggesting that pretty much everything in the department is a mess.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s yet another indictment of the leadership of Chief Greg Suhr, and will add to the calls that he step down or be fired.<\/p>\n<p>The three distinguished judges who run the independent panel are Dickran Tevrizian, LaDoris Hazzard Cordell, and Cruz Reynoso<\/p>\n<p>The Examiner\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfexaminer.com\/preliminary-findings-police-bias-probe-find-sfpd-lacks-discipline-oversight\/\">had the preliminary information this morning<\/a>, but the actual presentation was even more dramatic. A series of lawyers, mostly from big local firms, who worked pro bono to research the department, presented reports that showed an agency riddled by outdated policies, ineffective procedures, an utter lack of transparency, and patronage and nepotism.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the report shows, the department allows rogue officers to operate with impunity and there\u2019s a profound lack of accountability at all levels.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and as Raymond Marshall, an attorney with Sheppard Mullin, noted, \u201cwe find that the SFPD is, in fact, influenced by the [Police Officers Association] and the POA\u2019s influence has been an impediment to open dialogue and sustained reforms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The panel, run by three distinguished judges, including LaDoris Hazzard Cordell, Dickran Tevrizian, and Cruz Reynoso, who was one of the best justices of the California Supreme Court ever in history, was convened by Gascon, a former SF police chief, but operated independently.<\/p>\n<p>One of its major recommendations: An independent agency needs to audit the Police Department \u2013 and there\u2019s nobody to do that right now. The Police Commission lacks the staff (and frankly, the political will). The Controller\u2019s Office hasn\u2019t done performance audits, and lacks the expertise. The Office of Citizen Complaints responds to incidents only when someone files a complaint, and has only one policy person on staff.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a really good argument for creating an Office of the Public Advocate, something Sup. David Campos is proposing. The city could move the OCC under that office, and the public advocate could handle the audit function.<\/p>\n<p>Among the other preliminary findings:<\/p>\n<p>The SFPD has fine policies around racial disparities in policing, but those rules aren\u2019t getting followed. At best, Danielle Coleman, a lawyer with Morrison and Foerster, noted, \u201cofficer compliance with data collection is incomplete.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>African American and Hispanic people are far more likely than whites or Asians to be searched after traffic stops, she said \u2013 although there are far fewer instances when those searches lead to the discovery of anything illegal.<\/p>\n<p>Rachel Davidson, who works with Sidley Austin, reported that the hiring and promotion process is a disaster \u2013 there are no clear rules, there is no transparency and no published criteria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is real potential that qualified candidates are passed over,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>More: \u201cThe disciplinary system is a bit of a mystery. Candidates with disciplinary records for bias can advance through the promotion process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The background investigation process for new hires is \u201ca black box,\u201d she said. As many as 75 percent of the background investigators are former SFPD officers, and it\u2019s not clear what rules they use for screening candidates.<\/p>\n<p>There is, she said, \u201cactual and perceived nepotism\u201d in the department. No surprise there; it\u2019s an open secret. But the panel made clear that it\u2019s an issue that must be addressed.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Park Chiu, of the office of Morgan Lewis, noted that the SFPD Use of Force policies haven\u2019t been updated since 1995. The department, she said, \u201cdoes not collect enough data to see if the use of force disproportionately impacts minority populations.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to discipline and accountability \u2013 in my mind the most important issue in the department \u2013 the report was exceptionally critical. Nicholas Graham, an attorney with Munger Tolles, noted that there\u2019s a radical lack of transparency in discipline \u2013 the public basically has no idea whether officers are ever held accountable at all \u2013 and noted:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe discipline imposed by the chief of police is almost always mild, mostly just admonishment. There has not be one sustained complaint sent to the Police Commission (which can impose discipline of more than 10 days\u2019 suspension) since 2012.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In that period, there have been more than 2,000 complaints.<\/p>\n<p>The Office of Citizen Complaints, he noted, \u201chas not sustained a complaint of biased policing since 2012,\u201d although more than 200 have been filed.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a scathing description of a department that can\u2019t follow its own rules and policies \u2013 and a mayor and Police Commission who can\u2019t enforce any discipline.<\/p>\n<p>John Crew, a former police-practices lawyer for the ACLU, noted in his public comments that \u201call of this should not be necessary.\u201d He said that many of these problems were not new, but that the city has shown \u201cthe lack of political will to deal with these issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He noted that Suhr is the highest-paid police chief in the country (at $300,000 a year) and that even entry-level officers have some of the best pay and benefits. \u201cWe have invested in professional law enforcement,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd what we got was amateur hour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Indeed.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the scary thing: Suhr can\u2019t last, and will likely retire soon. But there is nobody better in the command staff \u2014 and the POA has such a grip on the department that it will be hard to bring in an outsider. We don&#8217;t have that.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday in San Francisco a forty-five year old Mexican, homeless migrant, Luis, was murdered by police under circumstances to which many witnesses there on the scene contradict the cops&#8217; depiction of what happened. Those witnesses claim there was absolutely no threat to those cops, much the same way we saw the video of Mario Woods walking away, crouched over in pain, from a confrontation with five cops training their pistols at his head before they fired over 40 bullets to rid the streets of what they obviously considered &#8220;undesirable&#8221; trash that needed to be put out. Mario was said to have in his hand a serrated steak knife, and not a single cop had the intelligence to knock it out of his hand with a 30 inch baton, standard police equipment. The seemingly mindless lust (bloodlust) to use their guns and prove something to their peer predators, exemplified in a herd mentality of wild beasts going after their prey, won out over &#8220;good police work&#8221; where a police officer makes full use of his equipment and his inherent common sense intelligence of dealing with a situation easily de-escalated without resorting to a barrage of bullets. Absolute insanity and a shameless gaping scar, an open pus oozing gash, on the record of SFPD.<\/p>\n<p>We have a serious problem in this city that politicians like to call the city of Saint Francis, the protector of the poor, the destitute, the homeless. But you\u2019re going to have to explain how your men, trembling with fear, weapons drawn, at least three or four police cars with two officers to each, approached this middle-aged man and within 30 seconds of arrival murdered a human being because that was the only recourse they had at their disposal, to play the Dirty Harry role with a man that never bothered the neighbors and was a fixture in the neighborhood endlessly kicking a soccer ball around the streets_ surely the most obvious signs of a serial killer that needed to be eliminated.<\/p>\n<p>THIRTY SECONDS, a middle-aged man completely surrounded, weapons drawn, a narrow street blocked off at both ends by police cars, and San Francisco\u2019s finest couldn\u2019t find the means to de-escalate a by then terrified man? Oh, that\u2019s right, they didn\u2019t teach you that at the Academy. You just got the shoot &amp; kill video training, right? Why waste any brain cells of your own to use common sense?<\/p>\n<p>And the little chieftain suhr can register this one in the SFPD annals of exemplary police work during his reign of terror upon the citizens of this city.<\/p>\n<p>And this little chieftain suhr just the very night before in a filled to capacity Police Commission hearing, attempted to push forward a SFPD reform package of police use of force practices that included arming his apparently conscience-less Blue Shirts with tasers, despite the fact that since 2001 there have been 634 deaths attributed to tasers in the US.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026and the Commission discussed the overreaction of police to cases of the mentally disturbed<\/p>\n<p>\u2026and they discussed the aggressive patterns of behavior of police towards the homeless<\/p>\n<p>\u2026and they touched upon the lack of training of officers in effecting de-escalation procedures instead of aggravating a situation<\/p>\n<p>\u2026and in all of the above, case after case of these kinds of confrontations have pervaded the streets of San Francisco for decades.<\/p>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t take a rookie cop with a below average IQ to figure out that mule\u2019s been kicking at the entrance to the Hall of Justice on Bryant far too long to finally have an epiphany go off in the inner caverns of the little chieftain\u2019s cerebral cortex.<\/p>\n<p>Something\u2019s extremely, explosively dire in this city when it comes to a police force using the streets of San Francisco to play out the shallowest and most pubescent characterizations of their masculinity at the expense of the lives of others, in this case a Latino, homeless man. For Luis fits the pattern of being the victim of racist cop killings in San Francisco. The odds are even more likely it could have been a black man. But pretty soon, my unengaged white and asian residents, it could be your son or daughter.<\/p>\n<p>THIRTY SECONDS! Lock that number in your mind. So many know that\u00a0their futures\u00a0look pretty dismal. Many upon graduating are facing an adult world without prospects for the jobs they prepared themselves for by going to college in the first place. And on top of it they enter the real world in extreme Student Debt, another issue the Occupy Movement focused on.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Bernie has been speaking out for years now about these issues to a silent Congress. I heard him on CNN and RT News and various blogs. The msm barely gave him coverage. His run for the presidency is the culmination of earlier efforts to change the system and challenge the moneyed interest. Hillary on the other hand has adopted issues for her campaign to appear to be a progressive. She was for the TPP before she was against. She favored the Keystone pipeline before she was against it. Her honesty thus is clearly suspicious.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>No one else is addressing what this nation needs to hear and grapple with the candor and on the deck running, for years now, like Bernie.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>For me there are possibilities with this candidate that come from his courage to buck the system and the money and the Royal Elites in this country as no one else has. He needs the People behind him.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>If elected he will be up against a granite wall of entrenched resistance to confronting the economic bullies that have seized control of our economy. But he will have the bully pulpit and will use it. He was using it long before it was popular for a presidential race.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And this will be where our engagement will be so necessary. We need to back him. We need to rein in the compromised representatives we have elected to serve us. We will need to stop waiting for some one on high to save us.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>There is work to be done. Will Americans do it after they leave their ballot boxes\u00a0in November. It&#8217;s hard to say. But if Bernie, wins the prospects for commitment by the People will be there like never before. Cruz, Trump, Clinton_it will just be back to the old and the tired and the dystopic.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Bernie has been in the trenches for years and even decades, pushing against a solid wall of interests that don&#8217;t reflect the needs of the American People.<\/div>\n<div>He has proven what others have not. If John King instead showed what would happen if Sanders won 57-43 (which he did in Wisconsin) in the rest of the states you would have seen Bernie\u2019s line pass Hillary\u2019s. The other networks were no better, MSNBC was showing the delegate count with the super delegates, Chris Matthews was calling the race all but over as he bashed Sanders\u2019 spending on things that would benefit the people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">Bernie Sanders had just soundly defeated Hillary Clinton in Wisconsin, for his 7th victory in the last 8 races. Bernie will get over 70% in the next contest this Saturday in Wyoming. The media couldn\u2019t bring themselves to just report Sanders\u2019 success \u2013 they had to tell us why it wasn\u2019t real. It has been this way the whole election. There is always a \u201cbut\u201d after any praise of Bernie. So it wasn\u2019t a surprise that while speaking on the cable news networks to his supporters in Wyoming Sanders told people to ignore what they hear on corporate media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">The corporate media has failed to report where the country is politically. It is either on purpose or they just don\u2019t get it. The reality is right in front of them in their exit polls, so my guess is they are purposely getting it wrong and trying to spin the country back to where they are comfortable. So let\u2019s look at what the exit polls in Wisconsin tell us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">Only one candidate excited the voters. That was Bernie Sanders. Nearly 60 of Wisconsin voters in the Democratic Primary percent said Sanders inspires them more about the future of the country. At least 7 in 10 Democratic primary voters in Wisconsin said they are excited or optimistic about what either candidate would do in office, but they\u2019re more likely to be excited about Sanders. About a third say they\u2019re excited about what he would do, while about half as many say that about Clinton. Voters in the Democratic Primary expressed comfort with Clinton but not excitement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">It is the same on the Republican side: More voters are excited about Donald Trump, and only 14% were excited about Ted Cruz, even though he won the state by a large margin. More Republican voters were scared of a Cruz or Trump presidency than were comfortable with either becoming the Commander in Chief.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">Nine in 10 voters on the Democratic side see Sanders as trustworthy, while only 6 in 10 say the same about Hillary Clinton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">Three quarters of Democratic voters say they are worried about the direction of the U.S. economy. Over a third said the economy and jobs are the most important issues facing the country, and 3 in 10 consider income inequality to be their top concern.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">The survey was conducted for the Associated Press and the television networks by Edison Research.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">So it is clear that voters in Wisconsin voted for Bernie Sanders and against Donald Trump. The exit polls showed very little real support for Ted Cruz; his vote was a protest against Trump.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\"><strong>New York<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">Bernie Sanders will win easily in Wyoming on Saturday, before the race heads to New York, where it will be all out war. The Clinton campaign will be going for the knockout on what they think is her home turf. They are already attacking Bernie on guns, claiming that criminals are going to Vermont to buy guns. They ignore the fact that most guns in New York City are bought upstate. Gun laws are less restrictive in the rest of New York State, a policy that Hillary Clinton supported in 2008 when she was the senator from New York.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">CNN reported tonight that the Clinton campaign said they would get tougher on Sanders and they are ready to put him away. That will be easier said than done. While Hillary Clinton has called New York home since she moved there to run for the Senate, Bernie Sanders was born and raised in New York. Just last week he had 18,000 people at a rally in the Bronx. Next week he will hold a rally in Washington Square Park on the day before the newly agreed upon debate in Brooklyn\u2019s Navy Yard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">Clinton will turn up the heat in that debate, as will Sanders. We already have Sanders starting to raise the issue of Clinton\u2019s support for the Panama free trade agreement. Sanders gave a speech in 2011 in which he said the agreement would protect offshore banking practices that allow the wealthy to avoid taxes. The Panama Papers scandal is another example of Bernie Sanders being right, warning us years before a major scandal or event takes place. Clinton pushed through the Panama Free Trade Deal at the same time that Sanders vocally opposed it, warning that it would limit the government\u2019s ability to clamp down on illegal activity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">New York will be a must-win for Sanders if he is going to catch Clinton in pledged delegates. It will not be the end for Sanders or his political revolution, which is revealing a major shift to the left in this country. In 2008, 46% of Wisconsin Democratic primary voters called themselves liberal, 40% moderate, and 14% conservative. In 2016, 61% said they were liberal, 27% moderate, and 5% conservative.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indent\">The country is shifting politically, and Sanders\u2019 political revolution has momentum that will translate beyond 2016. If Hillary wins the nomination she will be the last corporate Democrat to lead the party. Again the disconnect between at least their leaders&#8217; clear participation in the NATO efforts to be a part of the American coalition to rid Syria of an organization, ISIS, that the CIA created themselves, the basic cause of why the refugees are now at their doorsteps.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The latest news in SF on the Mario Woods case is that the City Attorney, who is rumored to want to be mayor, has backed the police in their &#8220;lawful&#8221;\u00a0murder of Mario Woods because he said they had to prevent the endangerment of the crowd that had gathered there as Mario was moving towards them with a knife.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Turkey, war refugees, and Mario Woods, what&#8217;s the commonality to the three?<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">An underlying lack of clarity and reason that has become so much a part of the &#8220;authorities&#8221; tactics in diverting the Public&#8217;s attention away from the original crime.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">And the Public&#8217;s response is to be led by their diversionary tactics away from that original crime into another scenario favorable for the authorities to justify and rationalize.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">This entire situation in the Middle East was started based on a pack of lies, provable beyond a shadow of a doubt. Initially after several knocks on the door. there was no response.<\/p>\n<p>Around 9;17, the garage door opened on the street level and Pastor Dorn, a black resident of the Bay View, emerged. He immediately put a call to his wife and she showed up to the house at 9:21. As she got out of the car she started to cry. When she entered the garage to go upstairs to collect her granddaughter and her belongings, one could hear screams of desperation from the sidewalk outside.The reality was no longer something that could hold back the built up tension that had been part of her life for seven years, fighting the eviction. Their family home of some twenty years was being seized from them with eight deputies present to enforce it.<\/p>\n<p>What began as an administrative error on the part of the bank, had escalated to refinancing and eventual default.. Their house had been auctioned off to a neighbor without their knowledge. This neighbor was obviously a speculator as he owned seven houses and had picked up this one at below market value.<\/p>\n<p>While witnessing the goings on, I struck up a conversation with a black woman in her sixties who said that she had almost lost her home years before but had been saved with the help of Occupy Activist. here in SF. Having lost her job and then being involved in a head on collision , she had fallen behind in her payments. Apparently capitalism has no room for the misfortunes that get in the way of the bank&#8217;s bottom line. One would have thought they had a John Wayne Remember the Alamo mentality of being beseiged.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Gwen Woods, the mother of Mario,\u00a0was there and immediately emotionally attacked these officers with her cries, her tears, and her anger. The Blue Code of Silence was subsumed by the deadened stares of cops without Conscience.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Helicopters overhead, streets blocked off by police, the demonstration filled the darkened night of San Francisco with the demands for greg suhr&#8217;s firing, His history in SF has been one of brutality and belligerent silence to the community.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: large;\">But it would appear that we have a spineless mayor, highlighted by his response just yesterday to questioning by older members of the black community as to why he didn&#8217;t personally &amp; directly apologize to the Mother of Mario Woods. It didn\u2019t win on the battlefield. It didn\u2019t win right away. It won because the same fears, the same greed, the same hatred that fueled its growth in the first part of the twentieth century never went away. The symbols of fascism became anathema, but the causes \u2026 went deep. And gradually, slowly, one step at a time, all those vices became first tolerated, then treated as virtues, and then as the only acceptable view.<\/p>\n<p>Godwin\u2019s Law\u2014the contention that any argument will eventually come round to warnings about Hitler\u2014is twenty-five years old, but for much longer than that, we\u2019ve been taught that the use of that&#8230; f-word, is not to be taken seriously. Sure, every government program, new or old, is open to accusations of communism and warnings of a slippery slope toward some failed dictatorship. That\u2019s expected. But to even acknowledge our long, stumbling lurch to the right; the building force of corporate power; the relentless need for war; a police whose power of enforcement is divorced from law; a preening nationalism that rewards the full rights of citizenship only to those who fit an ever-narrower mold\u2026 You can\u2019t call it fascism. People will only laugh.<\/p>\n<p>It was French poet Charles Baudelaire who said \u201cthe finest trick of the devil is to persuade you that he does not exist.&#8221; The finest trick of the modern fascist? The same. Nothing is ever fascist. It\u2019s just \u201cvery conservative.\u201d And this week\u2019s very conservative, is next weeks middle of the road.<\/p>\n<p>After all, what politician could be taken seriously who didn\u2019t accept the completely middle of the road position that we should value the safety of the populace over the preservation of rights? Forget that oath. The top job of the president is to keep the American public safe, no matter what that takes.<\/p>\n<p>It looks like the American people are waking up. They know that electing a Commander-in-Chief to keep America safe, so that we remain free, is what the 2016 election is all about.<br \/>\nEven when doing that job means abandoning families left destitute by war.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepublicans and Democrats came together in a veto-proof majority to respond to the will of the American people and do our primary job to keep them safe,\u201d said Representative Richard Hudson of North Carolina, a Republican, who co-sponsored the bill with Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul of Texas.<br \/>\nThat drive for safety \u00fcber alles means that we must surrender our privacy to the state censors who read everything we write, listen to everything we say, view every transaction we make, without a warrant and keep doing it even when they say they\u2019re not. It means that we have a police that makes use of tanks and other military gear to invade the homes of ordinary citizens, and where police take more property than criminals without convictions, or even charges.<\/p>\n<p>Now we\u2019ve come to an election year in which the promise of surveillance of those who follow the wrong religion, internment camps, torture and racism, racism, racism is not just a strategy, but a winning strategy.<\/p>\n<p>This is who we are &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"fascism.png\" src=\"http:\/\/images.dailykos.com\/images\/180587\/large\/fascism.png?1448374550\" alt=\"fascism.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Which part doesn\u2019t apply?<\/p>\n<p>There are a thousand definitions for fascism, most of them concocted simply to show that what you\u2019re doing isn\u2019t a step in the direction of fascism, but what that other guy proposes certainly would be. But I\u2019m not saying we\u2019re moving toward fascism. I\u2019m saying we started that drift a long time ago, and now we\u2019re well across the line. We started by labeling minorities in our own cities as &#8220;welfare queens&#8221; and constructed a mythology that drove a wedge through our nation. We started by equating democratic action with sure failure, and elevating capitalism into a cause. We started \u2026 and we kept going.<\/p>\n<p>We went there when we we turned greed\u2014the kind of sick, envious greed that makes people value the rich over the poor and corporations over individuals\u2014into not only a virtue, but a cornerstone of our nation cemented in place by repeated Supreme Court rulings that certify the preeminent position of wealth and corporate power.<\/p>\n<p>We went there when we turned nationalism\u2014blind prejudice against those who don\u2019t conform to the image of \u201cus\u201d\u2014into a flag-waving patriotism that\u2019s expressed in calls to enforce state religion and turn even those born here into \u201cother\u201d if they don\u2019t have the right skin tone. We went there when we used that nationalism to fuel unwarranted invasions that destabilized huge portions of the world and directly drove the terrorism that we\u2019re now using to fuel yet more nationalism and more attacks and more terrorism and more nationalism in an insane, self-reinforcing loop.<\/p>\n<p>We went there when we turned fear\u2014quivering, knock-kneed jittery cowardice\u2014into the illusion of \u201cbeing tough\u201d by throwing our freedoms away in double handfuls. It was that fear (and keen lobbying from defense contractors) that caused us, with no justification whatsoever, to begin funneling military equipment into our police forces, and to replace &#8220;protect and serve&#8221; with &#8220;dominate and control.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This is a year in which not only the leading candidate for the GOP nomination, but all major candidates have favored building a &#8220;permanent border wall&#8221; separating America from neighboring nations and justifying this wall on the basis of racist caricature of immigrants. A year where the idea of internment camps isn&#8217;t restricted to the GOP. It\u2019s a year in which protests have been met by tanks. In which reason is decried as weakness. My first reaction when it started in full force was disbelief. Hadn&#8217;t we learned anything? My assumption did not stand up to the reality.<\/p>\n<p>Men grow up in most societies where feelings are considered signs of weakness. We are conditioned to control them, deny them, refuse to even comprehend the emotional intelligence residing in them. They are part of our common humanity that we share with all creatures on this planet. But we learn to bury them. Our sense of manhood demands it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">And so we lose our human souls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I sometimes read about a narrative or see a video of children or mothers and fathers talking about the realities of witnessing the death of their loved ones, and I&#8217;m sitting alone in my home (there&#8217;s nobody else here, just me), and\u00a0my heart fills up my chest and the force of it pushes up to my head and tears want to come out, but\u00a0everything within me is forcing that pressure to back up, to prevent from overwhelming me. One night not too long ago when this took over me, I realized there&#8217;s nobody around to see my &#8220;weakness&#8221;. Why am I holding this back?<\/p>\n<p>Watching these four young men, former drone pilots or technicians,\u00a0I saw our culture of fraudulent masculinity split wide open through their conscious awareness of taking responsibility. Older men put younger men into these positions of moral conflict and in most cases never face the same, never will, never have. All the pressures of armies, nation populations, an entire young lifetime of conditioned but false patriotism, the expectations of teachers, families, and hometowns comes crashing down like a\u00a0military tank on top of a lamb and yet these four did not allow themselves to be used by the pretentious leaders who would eventually sell them out as quickly as they would spit out a foul taste in their mouths.<\/p>\n<p>We live in a world where a\u00a0Barak\u00a0Obama and a Michelle Obama, with beaming smiles and popular personalities, shield the realities of Other People&#8217;s experiencing horrific and brutally savage dismemberment and death of their families\u00a0reflective of all of us Americans who are responsible for this murderous act.<\/p>\n<p>So many of us, male or female, are conditioned throughout our lives, to look at what befalls Others devastatingly, as an Abstraction. The magnanimity of our own accountability causes us to retreat into a world of make believe or denial or\u00a0of unconsciousness. Whether it&#8217;s Hillary or Joe Biden or Nancy Pelosi or Dianne Feinstein, Donald Trump, or the entire\u00a0Bush family, I see a look of frightened conscience pretending the only thing that matters is the front they feel pressured to present to the Public. But they are dead inside. For they will continue the charade at all costs.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large;\">These men did not.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A short while ago, and I alluded to this earlier in this letter, I saw a video of a Palestinian father desperately squeezing the dead body of his young daughter, a child that must have given him so much love for her innocence and sweetness. Others were trying to get him to let go of her. Somehow they felt that was the thing to do. He wouldn&#8217;t let go. I found my self screaming to leave him alone, this is all he has left. One General Lord Goldsmith created that report.<\/p>\n<p>The Chilcot Report investigating Blair&#8217;s entry of Britain into the Iraq War has yet to be released. It has been delayed interminably. A couple of observations though I missed the last half hour.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to the Republican Circus, the questions were hard hitting at last, but could have covered many more issue of deep concern to the voters of this country.<\/p>\n<p>Sanders was a commanding force and Hillary looked like the perfect politician trying to have it both ways. And of course she had her little managerie of probably blind female loyalists squealing at her every not answering the question directly.<\/p>\n<p>When the question of what was the most pressing national security issue facing the American People came up, all but Sanders said terrorism and the Middle East. Sanders said the survival of the planet.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t believe there was any mention of Palestine and a third intifada though with almost a thousand deaths and casualties together in a week it strikes me as a willful disregard for reality by the manipulators of CNN.\u00a0A recent article by Norman Finkelstein points out that Palestinian young people both male and female have had it and are showing up to these demos in droves. This is a spontaneous reaction to decades of injustice. Norman points out that they are not being led by any organizations. It is a spontaneous response to the continued building of settlements, the violation of the Temple Mount by Jews, and the ever oppressive measures carried out by the\u00a0IDF.<\/p>\n<p>It is the Palestinian Arab Spring.<\/p>\n<p>And who cannot understand their anger?<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Bob of Occupy<\/p>\n<p><strong>Checkers vs. Chess in the Middle East and Africa<br \/>\nSeptember 20, 2015<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>What&#8217;s happening in the Middle East, more pointedly in the country of Syria and\u00a0its surrounding neighbors, is a game of one hegemonic\u00a0beast, the US,\u00a0playing checkers, while another less militarily powerful but still a country to be reckoned with, Russia,\u00a0playing chess.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>When a super power has all the military might necessary to control the game (as military strategists like to refer to war), a predominance of highly sophisticated weaponry and technological communication systems, the bully thus need only make a few moves to achieve his ends. It&#8217;s like checkers_clack,clack__clack,clack, clack. Game over.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>But when the bully is up against a smaller opponent, that opponent must use more of his intellectual strengths to outmaneuver the overpowering blunt force of the aggressor. He needs to think several moves ahead of his foe and be able to see what his enemy is incapable of seeing because his\u00a0foe\u00a0is so blinded by his own arrogant posturing. The pawns and rooks and bishops move quietly over the board, anticipating, drawing the opponent in to make mistakes, maneuvering ones forces stealthily towards and beyond the well defended positions of the opponent, waiting for the right moment to surround the king_checkmate.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The American War in the Middle East began under the most pretentious of reasons, essentially on a pack of lies. Because Saddam Hussein\u00a0was not involved in 9\/11, he did not have Weapons of Mass Destruction, and he wasn&#8217;t developing a nuclear bomb that we couldn&#8217;t wait for it to appear in the form of a mushroom cloud.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The acronym for the military operation to oust Saddam Hussein was originally Operation Iraqi Liberation_OIL. Well they got that right, didn&#8217;t they? OIL!<\/div>\n<div>But alas someone eventually saw the glaring resemblance to truth and changed it to Operation Iraqi Freedom, OIF.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Hubris apparently feels no compunction to weigh the consequences of its actions. It has only to lay out an explosive tsunami of shock and awe_absolute and horrifying and indiscriminate, I might add, bombardment of all that gets in its way.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Even though it took a general (Colin Powell of the cartoon, animated evidence brought before the United Nations to make a case for such an obliteration of a country and a region) to explain to the then adolescent and seemingly dim-witted president, the product of the limited gene pool of the 1%, the otherwise obtuse concept of The Pottery Barn Rule_you break it, you own it.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>One can only wonder how many\u00a0synapses of brain neurons were stimulated\u00a0within the inner cranial \u00a0cavity of the then War President_The Decider.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>One also might wonder if since, there has been any further questioning by anyone in any administration or military department as to the ownership of hundreds of thousands of decisions and orders dictated from on high concerning the War on Terror, actually America&#8217;s War for control of the natural resources of other countries.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>For, if one were to look with eyes wide open objectively, what happened in Afghanistan and Iraq has been the classic example of &#8220;Unintended Consequences&#8221;, the meaning of unintended, generously stretched.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Let&#8217;s look at those consequences. First, what began as a cakewalk of a war through Iraq where the Iraqi People would be &#8220;greeting us with flowers and chocolates&#8221;_revered Republican seer, William Kristol&#8217;s quote, transmorgified and metastasized into a least seven wars in the Middle East and Africa with the potential for yet more.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Well the question repeats itself, doesn&#8217;t it?\u00a0Who owns it?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Within a very short period of time after our Shock and Awe live action performance upon the county of Iraq, it was reported by a John Hopkins survey that the death toll for that &#8220;theater of war&#8221; was 654,96 Iraqis (March 2003-July 2006).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Internal and external displacement of human beings (refugees): According to a Lancet survey, three million internally displaced and two million refugees fleeing their country completely, those that could.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Many of those that fled, fled to neighboring countries like Syria, Turkey, Lebanon; but since they were refugees the opportunities for work were limited. I remember reading how fathers sent their daughters, some as young as twelve, to dance with and for men who frequented these establishment for their own entertainment. It was reported that wealthy Saudis after their obligatory day of worship on Friday would jump into their expensive sports cars and fly across the desert to essentially exploit the fates of young girls.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The say the first casualty of war is the truth. The second might be the exploitation of women. Throughout history, women, in war have been raped and exploited for soldiers&#8217;s pleasures. Many soldiers see it as a rite of manhood. They too care little for the consequence of their actions as do their countries that sent them there.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In the American Civil War, one General Hooker was known for giving parties in Washington and inviting &#8220;fallen doves&#8221;, the term then used to soften the consciences of the guest who participated. His troops in traveling from one battlefield to the next were accompanied by a contingent\u00a0of women who came to be known as hookers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In WWII, the Japanese had their comfort women. In Vietnam, poor and destitute Vietnamese women proferred their services outside the American bases.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Unintended consequences that nobody could see coming? And who again accepts responsibility for the broken chards of innocent girls? Who owns it.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Today in Serbia, Greece, Hungary, Croatia, England, France, and Germany, hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing America&#8217;s war for the resources and control of their countries are being met with barbed wire fences, tear gas, and right wing cadres of bigoted nationalists who probably support any war outside their own comfortable environments but their own to assuage in some perverted fashion their personal psychological fears and vulnerabilities.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So the game of checkers played by the US military brutes has now centered itself in Syria, where now most of the refugees are fleeing from to all parts of Europe, along with Libyans, and\u00a0Somalis and Sudanese.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Libya, where one of our earlier clack, clack__clack, clack, clack military strategies ended up with Gaddafi sodomized and murdered by a faction of his people, leaving an entire country in Northern African lawless and in tatters.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>But what better use of a group trained by the US in the overthrow of Gaddafi, then to send them on to Syria, only\u00a0much more robustly\u00a0armed with the weaponry that was given to them to catalyze regime change in Libya. And who were these US trainees? The transformation is mystifying. First they were Freedom Fighters against Gaddafl, then al Qaeda, then the ever coalescing of pissed off factions throughout the Middle East into what is known today as ISIS.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>But the clack, clacking became silent. The game board reverberated to its own shock and awe. It wasn&#8217;t supposed to play out like this. ISIS seized large swaths of Iraq and Syria and threatened Turkey and Lebanon and Iran. It already controlled Libya and had its eye on Egypt. The clack, clack__clack, clack, clack had reversed itself.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Enter Russia_the master chess player. Putin and Lavrov.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Under the pretense of getting rid of the President of Syria (let&#8217;s not call it regime change_Americans don&#8217;t do that_wink and a nod) we pretend to be fighting ISIS. But how can that be? We supplied them with arms in Libya to serve our purposes and trained them in Jordan. So now we&#8217;re calling them terrorists and yet\u00a0we continue to support them with arms by accidentally parachuting\u00a0weapons and ammunition\u00a0into their controlled areas. And the piece de resistance, our allies, Israel and Turkey are taking in their wounded in order to patch them up and put them back into the field to fight against Assad. And then Turkey recently said that they would allow the US to use their military airfield at Incirlik, again under the pretense of bombing ISIS.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>All the while the American people are being told that we are fighting ISIS, the beheaders of Christian Syrians, the rapist of\u00a0Yazidi Syrian\u00a0women. Dizzying, isn&#8217;t it how this\u00a0web is so tangled.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So did the checker players really think that Russia would just sit by and watch their ally, Assad, be attacked and do nothing? Well, apparently, yes. Remember checker players only think\u00a0two or three moves ahead, a\u00a0tip of the nose distance away.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Russia has begun a major deployment of military hardware to the port of Latakia while at the same time bringing in Russian combat pilots who will be used to bomb ISIS jihadists. After all, all the talk in the capitals of the US, Turkey, and Israel say the main threat is ISIS, the boogeyman in the Middle East.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Okay, so it&#8217;s really Assad to those in these capitals but Russia will play their game and take them at their word and Help Them Out. One pawn captured.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Russia and its military is in Syria. Don&#8217;t quite yet want to say &#8220;checkmate&#8221; but we&#8217;re getting dangerously close. The big brutish bully in the neighborhood, the US military, \u00a0no longer has carte blanche on doing whatever it wants.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And regarding that deployment by the Russians, Bulgaria (working with the US) won&#8217;t allow the Russians over their airspace for transporting military assistance to Syria. So the Russians are working it through Iran and Iraq. Iraq! Isn&#8217;t Iraq an American ally? As Gomer Pyle would say, &#8220;Surprise, surprise&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>I think that&#8217;s a capture of maybe a bishop, wouldn&#8217;t you say?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Now let&#8217;s step back again and look at Europe. And let&#8217;s be honest. The European Union is no longer a union. Large fissures are starting to appear. In its\u00a0recent fascist takeover of Greece through the most draconian monetary measures in extending loans, has succeeded in putting up for sale among other things belonging to the Commons_the Greek Islands. Imagine. Up for sale at bargain basement prices, and that&#8217;s just for starters. Weak economies within the European Union like Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland are questioning their benefits of being part of such a &#8220;union&#8221;. Because they&#8217;re next on the butcher block.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And then there&#8217;s Scotland. Though not part of the EU, they certainly have been for centuries part of Great Britain. Well, the tide is turning and Scotland wants out.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So, in short, the mood in Europe is one of distrust.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>For some time now, the European nations have been taking their marching orders from the US. After all, NATO, all pretense aside, is really the American Occupation Force in Europe. When Obama said sanctions\u00a0be placed on\u00a0Russia, even though many businesses in Europe would suffer from the losses of trade between the two countries, the European so-called leaders acquiesced and followed their Master&#8217;s orders. Not\u00a0a peep of dissent.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Now notice I said the leaders and not the people of Europe. Those who will pay the price for those sanctions in terms of lost revenues, are none too happy. Pressure is already being brought to bear upon the Merkel&#8217;s and Hollande&#8217;s and Faymann&#8217;s\u00a0(Austria)\u00a0and Orban&#8217;s (Hungary)\u00a0and\u00a0Vucic&#8217;s (Serbia)\u00a0and\u00a0Milanovic&#8217;s (Croatia) and Samaras (Greece)<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I think it&#8217;s safe to assume that the people of Europe have\u00a0some national pride and can see that their real enemy is the hulking Elephant in the room, the US.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And so that brings us full circle to the recent migrations of refugees crossing the borders of Serbia, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, on their way to Britain and France and Austria. The impact of American military policy in the Middle East and Africa must be making an indelible mark on the consciousness of these countries as to whom is responsible and as to who is paying\u00a0the burdensome toll. Will the people of these countries start the backward push against their &#8220;leaders&#8221; and their &#8220;leaders&#8221; against that oversized bully?
