Whitaker must assure the continued protection of the investigation immediately.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"pullquote\">&#8220;Trump fires his attorney general. We all know where this is heading.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2014Michael Moore<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/jeff-sessions-resigns-today-2018-11-07-live-updates\/\">According to<\/a>\u00a0<em>CBS<\/em>, Whitaker\u2014who previously served as Sessions&#8217; chief of staff\u2014will now be in charge of overseeing the Russia probe, which was previously supervised by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein after Sessions recused himself.<\/p>\n<p>Given Whitaker&#8217;s past criticism of the Mueller investigation\u2014which included a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2018\/10\/12\/trumps-potential-new-attorney-general-once-mused-about-choking-off-robert-muellers-funds\/\">proposal<\/a>\u00a0to reduce Mueller&#8217;s &#8220;budget to so low that his investigation grinds to almost a halt&#8221;\u2014legal experts and activists warned that the Sessions firing could be Trump&#8217;s opening salvo in a broader effort to undermine the Russia investigation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Trump&#8217;s plan, starting now: Fire Sessions, fire Rosenstein, then fire Mueller.
