If you\u2019d like details on why we don\u2019t support her, read on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nancy Pelosi<\/strong>&nbsp;is the incumbent, and also the Speaker of the House of Representatives.&nbsp; We go back and forth on whether to evaluate her from a local SF perspective or from a national perspective. While it\u2019s rad that she\u2019s birddogging Senator McConnell to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pelosi.house.gov\/news\/press-releases\/pelosi-floor-speech-advocating-for-hr-1-the-for-the-people-act\">expand voter registration<\/a>&nbsp;and access and make Election Day a holiday, it\u2019s a drag that she\u2019s primarily focused on national politics and absent from SF\u2019s needs. She\u2019s been&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/bayarea\/article\/San-Francisco-shipyard-scandal-Pelosi-calls-for-13121300.php\">shamefully AWOL on the Hunters Point Shipyard radiation<\/a>&nbsp;controversy. She eventually called for \u201coversight of the oversight of the oversight,\u201d which is, uh\u2026 not very reassuring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She\u2019s the most powerful woman in Congress, and maybe the world. We give her props for holding that motley bunch of Democrats in line, but the closer we look at her record, the more pissed off we get about her representing our City:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>She&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/prospect.org\/health\/mother-of-insulin-victim-on-pelosi-drug-price-bill\/\">pushed to strip out key provisions<\/a>&nbsp;of a drug pricing bill.<\/li><li>Her&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2019\/jul\/12\/nancy-pelosis-renewed-attacks-on-aoc-arent-just-disrespectful-theyre-dangerous\">attacks on \u201cthe Squad\u201d<\/a>&nbsp;are hella problematic,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/democratic-infighting-pelosi-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-racist-trump-tweets-2019-7\">empowering Trump<\/a>&nbsp;and his goons\u2019 death threats.<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/pelosi-ocasio-cortezs-green-new-deal-the-green-dream-or-whatever-they-call-it\">Fox News loved<\/a>&nbsp;her attack on the wildly popular Green New Deal.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2019\/02\/05\/nancy-pelosi-medicare-for-all\/\">Insurance Execs loved<\/a>&nbsp;her reassurance that they didn\u2019t have to worry about Medicare for All.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>She\u2019s supposed to be a master tactician, but:<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/powerpost\/surprise-republican-win-in-house-exposes-divisions-in-democratic-leadership\/2019\/02\/27\/0c27cb76-3ad8-11e9-aaae-69364b2ed137_story.html?utm_term=.e24480fffbea#click=https:\/\/t.co\/75urPEWE8U\">She got played by Republicans on procedural moves<\/a>&nbsp;on an important gun control bill.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/forward.com\/opinion\/418265\/bds-is-a-trap-for-democrats\/\">She fell into McConell\u2019s trap on Anti-BDS<\/a>&nbsp;bill that pitted Zionists against pro-Palestinian Democrats.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Her hands-off approach to impeachment and aggressive oversight of Trump enabled him and let him off the hook:<ul><li>She&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2019\/07\/07\/nancy-pelosi-has-chosen-her-war-and-its-with-her-own-partys-future\/\">took way too long<\/a>&nbsp;to go after Trump\u2019s tax returns and other court battles that won\u2019t be decided before the November 2020 election.<\/li><li>She essentially&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2019\/07\/07\/nancy-pelosi-has-chosen-her-war-and-its-with-her-own-partys-future\/\">dismissed E. Jean Carroll\u2019s credible rape allegation<\/a>&nbsp;against Trump. #metoo, Nancy?<\/li><li>Her&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/02\/07\/appeals-court-rejects-democrats-emoluments-suit-against-trump-111942\">failure to have the House authorize the emoluments lawsuit<\/a>&nbsp;about Trump profiting off of foreign governments just led to it getting thrown out in courts on a technicality.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We don\u2019t claim to be experts in national politics. We get that it\u2019s wicked complicated and nuanced and unavoidably icky, but damn, that\u2019s a long list of nonsense that doesn\u2019t represent our values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While we appreciate the political stances of Pelosi\u2019s challenger,&nbsp;<strong>Shahid Buttar,&nbsp;<\/strong>we at the League believe the personal is political. Given the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2020\/07\/shahid-buttar-sexual-harassment-allegation-misogyny-allegation-nancy-pelosi\/\">various<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/theintercept.com\/2020\/09\/25\/shahid-buttar-dsa-san-francisco-allegations\/\">summer 2020 revelations<\/a>&nbsp;about Buttar\u2019s campaign management and personal conduct, he does not have our endorsement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congress, District 12:&nbsp;No Endorsement Here\u2019s what we wrote about Nancy Pelosi in our March 2020 voter guide, and not much has changed since then.
