On-the-ground footage showed large groups of people chanting, \u201cStop, stop, stop Asian hate,\u201d buttressed by the sound of marching drums. Signs held read, \u201cRacism is a pandemic, too,\u201d and \u201cProtect Asian lives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former city Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer spoke at the rally, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2021\/03\/26\/san-francisco-hundreds-rally-against-anti-asian-american-violence\/?utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=socialflow&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_content=tw-mercnews\">according to the Bay Area News Group,<\/a>&nbsp;recalled a white woman attacking her mother on a Muni bus as a child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.hdnux.com\/photos\/01\/17\/24\/42\/20793515\/3\/1200x0.jpg\" alt=\"Protesters hold signs as they march along Market Street before a rally to show solidarity with Asian Americans at Embarcadero Plaza on March 26, 2021 in San Francisco.\"\/><figcaption>Protesters hold signs as they march along Market Street before a rally to show solidarity with Asian Americans at Embarcadero Plaza on March 26, 2021 in San Francisco.Justin Sullivan\/Getty Images<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese incidents are not new,\u201d she said, the newspaper reported. \u201cThese incidents have always happened.\u201dRead More<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Francisco District 6 Supervisor Matt Haney posted images on Twitter from the march, calling it a \u201cpowerful, huge\u201d moment of anti-racist action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe allowfullscreen=\"true\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/Tweet.html?dnt=true&amp;embedId=twitter-widget-0&amp;frame=false&amp;hideCard=false&amp;hideThread=false&amp;id=1375565824635760640&amp;lang=en&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sfgate.com%2Flocal%2Farticle%2FHundreds-gather-for-San-Francisco-Rise-Up-16056770.php&amp;siteScreenName=SFGate&amp;theme=light&amp;widgetsVersion=e1ffbdb%3A1614796141937&amp;width=550px\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to speaking out against anti-Asian violence, the protests remembered Angelo Quinto, a Vallejo man and Navy veteran who died days after a police officer knelt on his neck amid a mental health crisis last December. His family spoke at the rally, wearing shirts and hoodies with Angelo\u2019s face on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no good reason that my brother, Kuya Angelo, shouldn&#8217;t be here protesting or speaking up against anti-Asian violence today,\u201d his sister, Bella, said during the rally, according to a video&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abc7news.com\/asian-rally-march-san-francisco-rise-up-with-asians\/10450573\/\">shared by KGO<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The action comes in the weeks after an unprecedented wave of violence here and elsewhere in the country, including the horrific Atlanta shootings that left eight dead \u2014 including six Asian women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More protests will be held throughout the Bay Area this weekend, including one in San Francisco starting at 11 a.m. &nbsp;on Saturday&nbsp;at City Hall, and in Milpitas and Dublin on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe allowfullscreen=\"true\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/Tweet.html?dnt=true&amp;embedId=twitter-widget-1&amp;frame=false&amp;hideCard=false&amp;hideThread=false&amp;id=1375542530025132035&amp;lang=en&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sfgate.com%2Flocal%2Farticle%2FHundreds-gather-for-San-Francisco-Rise-Up-16056770.php&amp;siteScreenName=SFGate&amp;theme=light&amp;widgetsVersion=e1ffbdb%3A1614796141937&amp;width=550px\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Associated Press contributed to this report.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joshua Bote is a news and features reporter for SFGATE.
