According to&nbsp;the&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/2021\/10\/05\/la-city-council-to-consider-motion-aimed-at-developing-public-bank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Los Angeles Daily News<\/a><\/em>, the CLA\u2019s request for proposals will be released in 60 days. The selected consultant or subcontractor needs to have a history of working for and studying public banks or other mission-based financial institutions, and&nbsp;experience facilitating community stakeholder consultations.&nbsp;The CLA will report back to the City Council on the timeline for establishing the public bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councilmember Mike Bonin\u2019s comment before Tuesday\u2019s vote was quoted by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-10-05\/la-takes-step-toward-launching-city-owned-bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>The Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cThis is an idea that has gone from maybe three people supported it a decade ago to&nbsp;<strong>now being a mainstream idea<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Councilmember Mike Bonin commented:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>\u201cWith a public bank, we can invest in our neighborhoods, promote affordable housing, help struggling small businesses, support a just transition to a green economy, and advance equity.&nbsp;This is an exciting&nbsp;<strong>opportunity to create a system that champions people and not special interests<\/strong>, and I appreciate the opportunity to discuss it with my friends, colleagues and neighbors.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailynews.com\/2021\/10\/05\/la-city-council-to-consider-motion-aimed-at-developing-public-bank\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read the full Daily News article<\/a>]<br>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2021-10-05\/la-takes-step-toward-launching-city-owned-bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Read the full LA Times article<\/a>]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>H Los Angeles votes to develop a business plan for a public bank October 9, 2021 pbicomm Photo by Prayitno.
