In Colorado, Elisabeth Epps, a Denver Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)-backed criminal justice organizer and a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.levernews.com\/lever-time-americas-top-gun-problem-also-elisabeth-epps-vs-corporate-interests\/\">friend of&nbsp;<em>The Lever<\/em><\/a>, overcame establishment opposition and hundreds of thousands of dollars in spending against her to win a Democratic primary for state legislature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyposter.outpost.pub\/ghost-integration\/60818189ad12f332071054b8\/tips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tip Jar<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, in Illinois, state Rep. Delia Ramirez&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abc7chicago.com\/illinois-3rd-congressional-district-delia-ramierez-primary-election-results-2022-gilbert-villegas\/12002610\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trounced<\/a>&nbsp;her right-wing opponent Gil Villegas in Illinois\u2019 newly created Hispanic-majority 3rd Congressional District. Ramirez was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deliaforcongress.com\/endorsements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">backed<\/a>&nbsp;by Sanders and the Working Families Party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also in Illinois, DSA member Rachel Ventura won in a suburban Chicago district for state Senate, along with DSA member Anthony Quezada in a Cook County commissioner race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, upstate New York elected its first-ever socialist to the state Assembly, with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/hudsonvalley\/news\/article\/Sarahana-Shrestha-defeats-incumbent-Kevin-Cahill-17273138.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">victory<\/a>&nbsp;of Nepali-American organizer Sarahana Shrestha over 13-term incumbent Kevin Cahill. This Twitter&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MichaelangeloP_\/status\/1542254753966612482\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">thread<\/a>&nbsp;by a Shrestha staffer shows how they pulled it off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fetterman-and-bernie-take-on-mayor-pete\">Fetterman And Bernie Take On Mayor Pete<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spent his 2020 presidential campaign being&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/policy-and-politics\/2019\/4\/4\/18290753\/pete-buttigieg-bernie-sanders-filibuster-electoral-college-supreme-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">feted<\/a>&nbsp;by the corporate media as a candidate who wanted to \u201cmake governing great again.\u201d Yet under his leadership at the Department of Transportation, there\u2019s been an extraordinary supply chain crisis, and now, thousands of canceled flights. In response, Sanders and Pennsylvania Democratic Senate nominee John Fetterman have called on Buttigieg to take action by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2022\/06\/29\/sanders-fetterman-urge-buttigieg-fine-airlines-over-flight-cancellations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heavily<\/a>&nbsp;fining airlines for canceled flights due to staffing shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyposter.outpost.pub\/gift_subscription#\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Give A Gift Subscription<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buttigieg has not responded to their demands, offering these vague&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MorePerfectUS\/status\/1542663911526350850\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">comments<\/a>&nbsp;instead on Thursday: \u201cWe have a number of tools and authorities and we\u2019re prepared to use them. I\u2019d rather not have it come to that, but when those issues happen we will act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"chopra-chops-down-on-bank-fees\">Chopra Chops Down On Bank Fees<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Washington Post&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2022\/07\/01\/cfpb-rohit-chopra-financial-services-regulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">profiled<\/a>&nbsp;Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Chair Rohit Chopra, who is in the midst of a 9-month-old investigation into hidden fees charged by banks and credit card companies. While the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has launched an aggressive ad campaign against the consumer advocate, the&nbsp;<em>Post&nbsp;<\/em>noted that Chopra isn\u2019t backing down from his pledge \u201cthat the days of slap-on-the-wrist fines are over, and that repeat offenders will face serious financial consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chopra is also clear-eyed about the hurdles he faces. \u201cI think the largest firms are much more accustomed to having a relationship with their regulators that is more akin to friendship than to a traditional relationship between a regulator and a regulated entity,\u201d he told the<em>&nbsp;Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"big-surprise-building-safe-new-schools-helped-la-kids\">Big Surprise: Building Safe New Schools Helped L.A. While the average age of school buildings nationwide increased during that time, L.A. was building safe new schools \u2014 many of them in low-income neighborhoods. So the workers did it themselves, with a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdu.org\/upenn-teamsters-defeat-2tier?fbclid=IwAR1lm2YAL4joDkODHiBQNKmVbopYn44W77BWKsyWShmwBn_oZteHFdohMys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">little help<\/a>&nbsp;from Teamsters for a Democratic Union (TDU), a pressure group that helps Teamsters make their union member-run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Workers got their colleagues involved, made clear to their leaders they were ready to fight, and were able to eliminate the two-tier wage structure that made it so younger workers could never catch up in pay with their more senior colleagues.
