U.S. Rep. George Santos (R-NY), U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), and U.S. Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) were all caught on camera with the pins, leading some to express outrage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) was among the first to circulate images of the two Republicans wearing the pins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhere are these assault weapon pins coming from? Don Beyer (D-VA), captured an image of Congressman Clyde wearing the pin on his tie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">they&#39;re not sending their best <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/q7uO6MZHbH\">pic.twitter.com\/q7uO6MZHbH<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Aaron Fritschner (@Fritschner) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Fritschner\/status\/1620924296871948290?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 1, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAbsolutely repulsive,\u201d Duke University Professor of Global Health and Public Policy, Gavin Yamey&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GYamey\/status\/1621137856352894979\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>&nbsp;in response to the assault weapon pins. \u201cWe have mass shootings almost daily, and the Republicans are wearing assault weapon pins FFS.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the Members wearing the pins, Congresswoman Luna, on Wednesday also participated in a House Natural Resources panel debate to push back on Democrats\u2019 attempt to ban firearms inside the Committee\u2019s hearing room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepLuna\/status\/1620923243728359431?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1620923243728359431%7Ctwgr%5Eb58b88b8e35d56494c0f98fed5e1f189e523d5d4%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpublish.twitter.com%2F%3Fquery%3Dhttps3A2F2Ftwitter.com2FRepLuna2Fstatus2F1620923243728359431widget%3DTweet\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tweeted<\/a>&nbsp;later, \u201cThe same Democrats who are voting to send firearms to Ukraine are telling me I can\u2019t carry one.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/02\/01\/gun-debate-natural-resources-panel-00080654\" target=\"_blank\">Politico<\/a>&nbsp;reports the meeting (video below) was \u201craucous.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sociology professor and author Samuel Perry&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/profsamperry\/status\/1621137019488575490\" target=\"_blank\">observed<\/a>, \u201cRepublican members of congress are wearing AR-15 lapel pins. That\u2019s not just tone deaf. We find Republicans value gun rights more than any other right, including freedom of speech or religion. No need for a flag or cross pin. The gun is both their patriotic &amp; religious symbol.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) called wearing the pins \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RashidaTlaib\/status\/1620958759030857729\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">freaking sick<\/a>,\u201d and noted \u201cthey are doing it during #GVSurvivorsWeek,\u201d the hashtag for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/momsdemandaction.org\/fourth-annual-national-gun-violence-survivors-week-begins\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">National Gun Violence Survivors Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com\/2023\/02\/hunter-biden-is-fighting-back\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hunter Biden Is Fighting Back<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepCori\/status\/1620974207252451334\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pointed to National Gun Violence Survivors Week<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile gun violence continues to be the leading cause of death for children in our country,<br>@GOP members are wearing assault rifle pins during #GVSurvivorsWeek. Shameful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>American historian of Christianity Diana Butler Bass&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dianabutlerbass\/status\/1620950147319611392\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">did not mince words<\/a>: \u201cAlways said it was just a matter of time before the GOP replaced the cross with an assault rifle. Guns are their god.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Democratic Texas state Rep. Gene Wu&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GeneforTexas\/status\/1621180576614027265\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>&nbsp;the GOP \u201chas stopped playing coy and is now openly and unabashedly praising mass shooters. Will there be special versions to celebrate specific mass shootings?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor of International Relations Nicholas Grossman&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NGrossman81\/status\/1621169610665103360\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>: \u201cLegislators from party that defends recent coup attempt by their up-til-recently\u2014and possibly still\u2014party leader replace traditional patriotic flag pin with a pin depicting a rifle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>California state Sen. Dave Min weighed in,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DaveMinCA\/status\/1621178373363073026\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">saying<\/a>, \u201cThe debate over 2A [the Second Amendment] has never been about 2A. It\u2019s about \u2018disrupting\u2019 civilized society as we know it, and trolling the ordinary Americans concerned about our insane levels of gun violence. That\u2019s why it\u2019s the biggest assholes who are most loudly touting irresponsible gun access.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The addition of the assault weapon pins to Republican Members\u2019 clothing comes on the heels of U.S. Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) distributing grenades to fellow Members last week.
