What\u2019s unique is that students residing in the Village attend classes at graduate and professional schools from across San Francisco and beyond: UC Law SF, UCSF, SF State, USF and University of the Pacific Dugoni School of Dentistry. The facility also houses students from UC Berkeley and UC Davis, the Davis students enrolled in a graduate-level San Francisco based data analytics program. \u201cThe Academic Village appeals to students preferring the dynamic character of a dense urban area with access to museums, bars, restaurants, and cultural events,\u201d says Chancellor and Dean David Faigman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"344\" src=\"https:\/\/occupysf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-62-1024x344.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28595\" srcset=\"https:\/\/occupysf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-62-1024x344.png 1024w, https:\/\/occupysf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-62-300x101.png 300w, https:\/\/occupysf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-62-150x50.png 150w, https:\/\/occupysf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-62-768x258.png 768w, https:\/\/occupysf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-62-250x84.png 250w, https:\/\/occupysf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-62.png 1035w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"4\" height=\"3\" src=\"https:\/\/occupysf.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/image-60.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28593\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>San Francisco History Center, San Francisco Public Library \/ UC Law staff help on move-in day to the new Academe 198 at the Academic Village.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Already, downtown, close to transit and the main public library; university leaders wanted to add another benefit, especially for its graduate students often siloed in their field of study. \u201cThe idea behind the Academic Village is to bring together students from multiple fields of study, creating a holistic learning community&#8230;\u201d says Rhiannon Bailard, Chief Operating Officer of UC Law SF. Campus amenities take things even a step further. The Academic Village\u2019s website boasts \u201clounges with skyline views, study rooms, a communal kitchen&#8230; outdoor courtyards and bicycle storage&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can also bring their pets who will enjoy on campus pet amenities and a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfrecpark.org\/457\/Dog-Play-Areas\">dog park<\/a>&nbsp;across the street in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sfrecpark.org\/900\/United-Nations-Plaza\">UN Plaza<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 which is also reinventing itself to have a more campus-like vibe. The City\u2019s Recreation and Parks Department is currently installing outdoor fitness equipment, ping pong tables and daily recreation classes. Nearby&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sMI8aTv9itM\">SF Conservatory of Music<\/a>&nbsp;recently added 100 student apartments next to City Hall; and the French American School has expansion plans too. The retail giant\u2019s only San Francisco store sits in the Mid Market neighborhood between 5th and 6th streets &#8211; and back-to-school season is for IKEA what the holidays are for most retailers. Blick Art Materials has served students from all over the City at its Market Street location since 2010. Their back to school sale runs through the end of this month and Senior Vice President of Retail and Manufacturing Barton Veghts notes the store is well stocked for upticks of students and artists to the area, \u201cWe currently have over 15,000 items on sale.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With its Broadway theaters, trendy&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfexaminer.com\/our_partners\/mid-market-streetwear-scene-continues-to-grow-as-trendsetters-shop-the-street\/article_68219b88-32e4-11ee-8e93-036221d15a7e.html\">streetwear shops<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.2blocksofart.org\/\">arts<\/a>&nbsp;&amp; culture, and influx of new students, faculty and staff &#8211; Mid Market has much in common with its newest neighbor IKEA when it comes to variety and vibrancy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This August, UC College of the Law completed the second phase of its&nbsp;Academic Village&nbsp;with 656 units of new student housing in downtown San Francisco.
